Job Description

Purpose of the role

To design, develop and improve software, utilising various engineering methodologies, that provides business, platform, and technology capabilities for our customers and colleagues. 

Accountabilities

  • Development and delivery of high-quality software solutions by using industry aligned programming languages, frameworks, and tools. Ensuring that code is scalable, maintainable, and optimized for performance.
  • Cross-functional collaboration with product managers, designers, and other engineers to define software requirements, devise solution strategies, and ensure seamless integration and alignment with business objectives.
  • Collaboration with peers, participate in code reviews, and promote a culture of code quality and knowledge sharing.
  • Stay informed of industry technology trends and innovations and actively contribute to the organization’s technology communities to foster a culture of technical excellence and growth.
  • Adherence to secure coding practices to mitigate vulnerabilities, protect sensitive data, and ensure secure software solutions.
  • Implementation of effective unit testing practices to ensure proper code design, readability, and reliability.

Embark on a transformative journey as a Prime Risk Platform Architect - VP at Barclays. Our vision is clear - to redefine the future of banking by crafting innovative solutions. In this role, you will be part of the Liquid Financing Technology team. Our team is currently investing in building a modern, Client Risk Management platform, cross-asset risk management solution that delivers real-time analytics, AI enabled workflows, and reporting for front-office users. As an Architect, you would drive end‑to‑end architecture for a low‑latency, high‑throughput, highly available risk platform that delivers real‑time credit risk, market risk, and liquidity risk analytics across asset classes. You will define platform principles, reference architectures, and standards enabling real-time risk exposure monitoring, intraday limits & margin forecasting, and what‑if stress/scenario analysis, at enterprise scale, with security, controls, and cost efficiency. In this role, you would be working closely with front office risk desk, quants and broader Liquid Financing engineering team aligned to firm’s architecture standards for Data, Compute, AI & Visualization.

To be successful as a Prime Risk Platform Architect - VP, you should have:

  • Experience with software/platform engineering, with significant experience as a technical / solution architect on complex and distributed real time or near real time risk or trading systems with large data volumes

  • Expertise with AWS Well Architected Framework - EKS, MSK, EC2, Lambda, S3, Aurora, DynamoDB, IAM, KMS, VPC, CloudWatch, Step Functions with experience in designing high-availability multi-AZ designs

  • Experience with Spark Streaming with Python (PySpark) on EMR/EKS; Kafka architecture and tuning; Kubernetes microservices; Flink/Kinesis for low latency event processing and streaming ETL

  • Experience with designing S3 data lakes with Delta/Iceberg/Hudi, using Aurora Postgres/DynamoDB, ElastiCache (Redis), Athena/Glue, and time series storage

  • Experience with Angular based real-time UI patterns; QuickSight/Power BI/Tableau

Some other highly valued skills may include:

  • Experience with LLM powered capabilities – chat interfaces integrated with RAG Pipelines, embeddings, and agentic workflows integrated with SageMaker pipelines.

  • CloudWatch, Open Telemetry, Prometheus/Grafana

  • Direct experience with prime brokerage / prime finance risk platforms or FO/MO risk tools (e.g., real time exposure, VaR/stress, PFE, or x asset risk engines)

  • Demonstrated influence and leadership across multiple squads/regions in a matrixed investment banking environment

  • AWS Certified Solutions Architect – Associate or Professional

You may be assessed on the key critical skills relevant for success in this role, such as risk and controls, change and transformation, business acumen, strategic thinking, digital and technology, as well as job-specific technical skills.

This role is located in our New York, NY office.

Minimum Salary: $170,000

Maximum Salary: $230,000

The minimum and maximum salary/rate information above includes only base salary or base hourly rate. It does not include any other type of compensation or benefits that may be available.
