About the Role:
As an Associate Director in Application/Product Architecture, you will lead complex architectural projects with significant autonomy. You will provide expert guidance in creating integrated, innovative solutions that align with organizational goals. Your contributions will be critical in strategic technology planning and driving product excellence through high-quality designs and implementations.
Responsibilities:
• Lead strategic analysis of business and stakeholder requirements.
• Direct the development of comprehensive architectural blueprints and models.
• Ensure compatibility and integration of new products/services with existing architecture.
• Oversee the creation and maintenance of detailed technical specifications.
• Lead technical planning sessions and strategy alignment with organizational goals.
• Drive in-depth testing, validation, and optimization processes.
• Ensure strict adherence to organizational standards and industry best practices.
• Identify and address complex architectural and integration challenges.
• Communicate strategic updates and design modifications to stakeholders.
• Provide expert guidance and mentorship to team members.
Skills:

1. Product-Centric Architecture Leadership
  • Deep expertise in designing and evolving large-scale, customer-facing SaaS products, not just systems integration.
  • Strong ability to balance product velocity, scalability, reliability, security, and cost in architectural decisions.
  • Proven experience partnering with Product Management and Engineering Leaders to translate product strategy into long-term architectural direction.
2. Cloud-Native & Platform Architecture
  • Expert-level knowledge of cloud-native architectures (AWS/Azure/GCP), including:
    • Microservices and modular monolith patterns
    • Event-driven and asynchronous architectures
    • API-first and contract-driven design
  • Strong understanding of platform engineering concepts: internal developer platforms, shared services, and golden paths.
3. Data, Integration, and Distributed Systems
  • Advanced understanding of distributed systems design, including consistency models, resiliency, fault tolerance, and observability.
  • Experience designing data-intensive systems (OLTP, OLAP, streaming, messaging).
  • Expertise in enterprise and partner integrations, including API gateways, authentication/authorization, and versioning strategies.
4. Architectural Governance with Pragmatism
  • Ability to define and evolve architectural standards, reference architectures, and design principles that teams actually adopt.
  • Strong judgment to know when to enforce standards and when to allow exceptions to enable speed and innovation.
  • Experience leading architecture reviews that are collaborative, outcome-focused, and enable teams rather than slow them down.
5. Technical Depth & Hands-On Credibility
  • Strong background in modern programming languages and frameworks used in product engineering (e.g., C#, Python, TypeScript).
  • Ability to dive deep into codebases, prototypes, and proof-of-concepts when needed.
  • Experience evaluating and introducing new technologies responsibly, with clear ROI and risk analysis.
6. Security, Compliance, and Reliability by Design
  • Deep understanding of security-first architecture, including identity, secrets management, data protection, and threat modeling.
  • Experience designing systems that meet enterprise compliance, privacy, and regulatory requirements without overengineering.
  • Strong focus on non-functional requirements: availability, performance, scalability, disaster recovery, and operability.
7. Engineering Leadership & Influence
  • Demonstrated ability to lead through influence, not authority, across multiple teams.
  • Strong mentoring skills for senior engineers, tech leads, and emerging architects.
  • Ability to articulate complex technical concepts clearly to engineering, product, and executive stakeholders.
8. Strategic Thinking & Execution
  • Ability to think 3–5 years ahead while still enabling near-term delivery.
  • Experience driving incremental modernization of legacy systems without disrupting active product development.
  • Strong decision-making skills under ambiguity, with a bias toward practical, outcome-driven solutions.
9. Documentation & Communication Excellence
  • Ability to produce clear, concise, and durable architectural documentation (ADRs, diagrams, reference architectures).
  • Comfortable communicating architecture through visual models, narratives, and trade-off discussions.
  • Skilled at aligning multiple teams around a shared technical vision.
