Principal Data Engineer - Remote

Functions may include database architecture, engineering, design, optimization, security, and administration; as well as data modeling, big data development, Extract, Transform, and Load (ETL) development, storage engineering, data warehousing, data provisioning and other similar roles. Responsibilities may include Platform-as-a-Service and Cloud solution with a focus on data stores and associated eco systems. Duties may include management of design services, providing sizing and configuration assistance, ensuring strict data quality, and performing needs assessments. Analyzes current business practices, processes and procedures as well as identifying future business opportunities for leveraging data storage and retrieval system capabilities. Manages relationships with software and hardware vendors to understand the potential architectural impact of different vendor strategies and data acquisition. May design schemas, write SQL or other data markup scripting and helps to support development of Analytics and Applications that build on top of data. Selects, develops and evaluates personnel to ensure the efficient operation of the function.

Primary Responsibilities:

• Design, implement and maintain all functions of database systems, including access, methods and time, allocations, validation checks, organization, security, documentation, etc.
• Collaborate with business and technical teams to understand business processes, systems and data needs for reporting & analytics
• Develop, monitor & troubleshoot ETL and PostgreSQL data warehouse processes, including maintenance and system updates
• Evaluate, test and provide recommendations for the selection, user and deployment of DBMS software, data engineering & management tools and utilities, data warehouse and replication tools, etc.
• Lead Query Optimization, Performance & Tuning Efforts; Develop & implement best practices & standards
• Support issue/problem resolution; Identify, communicate, escalate & resolve, database/server issues and risks appropriately
• Automate repeatable tasks; Support and participate in data warehouse modernization efforts to minimize data and process duplication and redundancies

Required Qualifications:

• 7+ years of experience as a PostgreSQL DBA
• 5+ years of experience in on-call application support to monitor ETL jobs and databases for performance and troubleshoot database problems
• 3+ years of experience in scripting languages such as Python, SAS, PLSQL, etc.
• 3+ years of experience with Database monitoring and performance management tools

Preferred Qualifications:

• Bachelor's degree in Information Technology, Data Engineering or related field
• 3+ years of experience with ETL and enterprise data warehouse technical development
• 3+ years of experience in experience with execution plans, identifying redundant and faulty processes for optimization opportunities, performing load balancing, parallel processing, partitioning and indexes

Pay is based on several factors including but not limited to local labor markets, education, work experience, certifications, etc. In addition to your salary, we offer benefits such as, a comprehensive benefits package, incentive and recognition programs, equity stock purchase and 401k contribution (all benefits are subject to eligibility requirements). The salary for this role will range from $112,700 to $193,200 annually based on full-time employment. We comply with all minimum wage laws as applicable.
