Principal Platform Engineer

You are an experienced software engineer (8+ years coding professionally) who blends deep architectural thinking with hands-on coding. You’ve built and rebuilt complex systems at scale, and your opinions on languages, systems, and tools come from practical experience, not theory. You are equally comfortable designing the blueprint for a system as you are rolling up your sleeves to implement it. You know when to lean on convention and when to chart a new path. You can rethink and re- implement core systems in ways that make migration and adoption smoother, not harder. In short: you’re an exemplar architect who codes, or an exemplar coder who architects.

You thrive in high- stakes environments where systems must evolve while still running. You understand that the engines can’t stop just because they’re being replaced. You can operate in shadow mode, designing and implementing new solutions that fit into place without disruption.

You are a technical leader, not just by title, but by the way others look to you for direction. You sharpen the engineers around you with timely feedback, thoughtful architectural guidance, and a clear decision- making framework. You take pride in the success of your teammates as much as your own. You balance time in the coding pocket with setting vision for how complex systems interlock and scale.

You’ve architected distributed systems at scale, balancing pragmatism with long- term vision. You’ve owned applications end- to- end and handled infrastructure concerns, including infrastructure- as- a- service. You’ve deployed microservices on AWS or GCP.

• Architect and evolve core platform systems with a focus on long- term scalability, reliability, and developer productivity.
• Design and implement new systems in shadow mode, ensuring seamless migrations while critical workloads remain live.
• Lead development of foundational services, including:
  • Query Layer Service: Unifying APIs across popular data warehouses.
  • Realtime Support: Designing and evolving our architecture for real-time capabilities.
  • Export Service: Building scalable, fault-tolerant microservices for data transfer to external platforms.
• Partner with product and engineering leadership to identify when and how to replace legacy systems with modern, resilient architecture.
• Mentor and guide staff and senior engineers, scaling not just systems but people.

Compensation & Benefits

The estimated salary for this role is $200k- 280k USD, or $220k- 300k CAD, plus equity. Final base salary decisions will be based on a variety of non-discriminatory factors such as performance, experience, and qualifications.
