The Opportunity:
We are seeking a highly motivated, strategic Principal External Wholesaler to join Hamilton Lane’s Private Wealth Solutions team, with a primary focus on RIA relationships across the New York City and New Jersey metro area. In this role, you will be responsible for originating and deepening advisor relationships, driving adoption of Hamilton Lane’s private markets solutions and growing assets across your territory.
You will work closely with internal wholesalers, National Accounts, Product and senior leadership to deliver differentiated market insights, portfolio construction guidance and private markets expertise tailored to the needs of RIAs and their end clients. This is a visible, production-oriented role in a fast-paced, entrepreneurial environment.
Your responsibilities will be to:
- Own and grow a defined territory of RIA firms and advisors across the NYC and NJ metro area, serving as the primary relationship manager and local Hamilton Lane representative.
- Develop and execute a territory business plan that drives advisor engagement, platform adoption and asset growth across Hamilton Lane’s private markets offerings.
- Conduct high-impact in-person and virtual meetings with financial advisors, RIA leadership and investment teams to position Hamilton Lane strategies, articulate value propositions and support portfolio construction.
- Partner closely with your Internal Wholesaler to run coordinated campaigns, call blocks and follow-up cadences that maximize advisor coverage and conversion across the territory.
- Identify and cultivate new RIA relationships and centers of influence, expanding Hamilton Lane’s footprint and share of wallet within the region.
- Translate enterprise and platform-level opportunities (new product launches, new platform placements, pricing or structure changes) into actionable field activity and production within the territory.
- Drive a disciplined pipeline and sales process, including opportunity qualification, forecasting, and consistent follow-up from first meeting through funded investments.
- Collaborate with Product, Marketing and National Accounts to refine positioning, share field feedback, and support the development of sales tools, campaigns and educational content for the RIA channel.
- Maintain accurate and up-to-date CRM records for all advisor and firm interactions, opportunities, next steps and production.
Your background will include:
Must-haves:
- 7–10+ years of experience in financial services sales, with a strong track record as an external wholesaler or senior salesperson covering wealth management intermediaries.
- Direct experience calling on RIA firms and advisors, with established relationships in the NYC and/or NJ metro private wealth ecosystem strongly preferred.
- Series 7 and 63 (or equivalent) in good standing; additional designations such as Series 65/66, CAIA or CFA are a plus.
- Deep understanding of investment products and capital markets, with strong familiarity and interest in alternative investments and private markets.
- Exceptional presentation and communication skills, with the ability to simplify complex private markets concepts for advisors and their high-net-worth and ultra-high-net-worth clients.
- Proven ability to operate with a high degree of autonomy and accountability, while collaborating effectively with internal partners (internal wholesalers, National Accounts, Product, Marketing and Operations).
- Strong organizational skills with disciplined territory management, pipeline tracking and follow-through across a large and diverse advisor base.
Preferred:
- Experience distributing private markets funds (e.g., evergreen vehicles, registered funds, feeder funds, co-investments or secondary offerings) through RIA and private wealth channels.
- Existing, high-quality relationships with key RIA platforms, CIOs, research teams and leading advisory practices in the NYC and NJ region.
- Familiarity with advisor technology and CRM systems (e.g., Salesforce) and comfort using data and analytics to inform targeting, segmentation and follow-up.
- Demonstrated commitment to professional development and thought leadership in alternatives and private markets.
Location:
- Primary Markets: New York City and New Jersey metro area.
- Home Base: New York, NY or surrounding NYC/NJ metro, with regular in-person coverage of the territory.
Travel Requirements:
- Significant travel (50%+ expected) within the NYC and NJ metro area, with additional travel as needed for key client meetings, conferences, firm events and internal sales meetings.
Salary range for this position: $125,000 to $175,000 per year. Actual base salary may vary based upon, but not limited to, relevant experience, time in role, peer and market data, prior performance, business sector, and geographic location. You may also be eligible for an annual discretionary incentive compensation award.
