Who we are: Lynx delivers modular, open standards-based software solutions that redefine the economics of developing, deploying, and maintaining high assurance, mission critical edge platforms. These secure edge computing solutions are designed to drive innovation and operational excellence in today’s most demanding environments. From advancing aerospace and defense capabilities to transforming commercial and industrial systems, Lynx collaborates across a wide range of industries, including automotive, medical, and critical infrastructure, to deliver tailored, high assurance solutions aligned with specific mission and operational requirements. Our key products and services are:

  • LYNX Mosaic: A software platform that can include a LYNX safety-critical real-time operating system. MOSAI.ic's modular design provides robust support for multicore processing. It allows different operating systems and applications of different criticality levels to be run on separate cores for improved performance, reliability, and security.
  • CoreSuite 2.0: A suite of graphics libraries and tools that enable GPU hardware acceleration for both graphics and "GPU Compute", supporting applications such as machine learning and AI processing in edge devices.
  • MOSA.ic.SCA and Vigiles, tools that provide Software Bill of Materials (SBOM) and Common Vulnerabilities Exposure (CVE) management for embedded Linux-based and other applications.
  • Software development services for high-reliability applications that can include initial setup of a "DevSecOps" development environment, software application development, and long-term product lifecycle management.

About the Role

We’re seeking a Principal Software Architect – Networking & RTOS to drive the technical architecture, design, and implementation of advanced embedded and real-time networking solutions across our product portfolio. This role is highly technical and influential—requiring deep expertise in low-level software, real-time systems, and complex networking architectures. You’ll work hands-on with system software, collaborating closely with engineering leadership, internal teams, and key external partners to deliver robust, high-performance, and secure solutions built on Lynx’s trusted technologies.

Key Responsibilities

  • Architect and design embedded software systems focusing on networking, real-time operating system (RTOS) integration and virtualization.
  • Define and implement low-level scheduling, interrupt handling, and communication mechanisms in real-time, safety-critical environments.
  • Lead technical decision-making for kernel-level development, device driver design, and inter-process communication frameworks.
  • Collaborate with internal teams and external customers to understand system requirements and translate them into detailed software architectures.
  • Evaluate and guide the selection of networking protocols, virtualization frameworks, and RTOS components to optimize performance and reliability.
  • Contribute to the evolution of Lynx’s system architecture standards and ensure alignment with safety and security best practices.
  • Serve as a technical mentor and subject matter expert, influencing engineering direction across multiple product lines.
  • Contribute to DO-178C or other safety certification efforts through design reviews, documentation, and verification support.

Required Qualifications

  • 10+ years of experience in embedded systems or kernel-level software development.
  • Deep hands-on expertise in C programming, Linux kernel, and RTOS architectures (e.g., LynxOS, VxWorks, QNX, or similar).
  • Strong understanding of real-time scheduling, context switching, interrupt handling, and memory management.
  • Proven experience developing or architecting networking stacks, virtualized I/O (VirtIO), and device drivers.
  • Experience defining system-level architectures and guiding complex embedded software projects from concept to delivery.
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills; ability to engage directly with customers and cross-functional teams on technical topics.
  • Must be a US citizen.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Familiarity with DO-178C or other safety-critical software certification processes.
  • Experience with hypervisors, secure partitioning, or mixed-criticality systems.
  • Background in aerospace, defense, or industrial embedded systems.
