Join us as we work to create a thriving ecosystem that delivers accessible, high-quality, and sustainable healthcare for all.

Principal UX Designer

Position Summary: Design and deliver high-quality, user-centered clinical experiences across mobile, web, and EHR-integrated platforms that support clinicians’ decision-making at the point of care. Lead cross-platform product design work from discovery through delivery, translating research and analytics into clear, usable solutions. This is a remote position based in the U.S. and contributes to the epocrates product experience. This role reports to the Experience Design Senior Manager.

About the Team: The epocrates UX team designs clinical reference and point-of-care experiences used by healthcare professionals nationwide. The team partners with product management, engineering, data science, and medical information to build interoperable, evidence-based workflows and integrations with EHR systems. The group uses modern design tools and systems (for example, Figma and a shared design system) and emphasizes research-informed, accessible design that supports clinician decision-making.

Essential Job Responsibilities:

  • Lead design and delivery of cross-platform clinical experiences for iOS, Android, responsive web, and EHR integrations.
  • Define feature interaction and visual design using the organization’s design system to ensure consistency and scalability.
  • Translate qualitative and quantitative research into design solutions, iterating through testing and user feedback.
  • Collaborate with product managers, engineers, data scientists, and medical information specialists to align on requirements and delivery.
  • Create wireframes, prototypes, and high-fidelity designs that communicate interaction, accessibility, and content needs.
  • Evaluate design trade-offs to balance clinical integrity, usability, and product goals.
  • Mentor and review work of other designers to raise design quality across the team.
  • Present design direction and rationale to stakeholders, incorporating feedback and measurable success criteria.
  • Integrate AI tools into design workflows: evaluate AI capabilities relevant to clinical content and design (e.g., for ideation, prototyping, content generation), recommend appropriate uses, and model responsible practices for the team.
  • Maintain accessibility and inclusive design standards across products.

Additional Job Responsibilities:

  • Support cross-functional design strategy and planning, including scoping and defining success metrics for projects.
  • Contribute to design system governance and pattern libraries.
  • Facilitate design workshops and problem-solving sessions to generate multiple solution approaches.
  • Advocate for user needs in product and commercial discussions, including partner content considerations.
  • Help define research needs and partner to run usability testing and analytics reviews.
  • Share learnings, case studies, and best practices across the broader design and product organization.

Expected Education & Experience:

  • 8+ years of UX or product design experience in complex informational domains; healthcare or health tech experience preferred.
  • Demonstrated experience designing across native mobile (iOS/Android) and responsive web platforms.
  • Expert proficiency in Figma and experience working with or contributing to a design system.
  • Proven use of qualitative and quantitative research to inform and validate design decisions.
  • Strong communication and presentation skills with experience influencing cross-functional stakeholders.
  • Experience mentoring and coaching other designers.
  • Portfolio demonstrating systems thinking, interaction design, and measurable outcomes from prior projects.
  • Knowledge of accessibility principles and experience delivering inclusive design solutions.
  • Experience with EHR integration, clinical content, or editorial/publishing workflows is a plus.
  • Experience using AI-enabled design tools for ideation, prototyping, or content generation is a plus.

Expected Compensation

$153,000 - $259,000
