Position Purpose:


This is an 18-to-24-month rotational leadership opportunity to support the Chief Procurement Officer and Interim Head of Supply Chain. Reporting into the Chief Procurement Officer (CPO), the Procurement Director, Decision Support Lead (DSL) will support the CPO and Leadership Team in formulating and driving execution of the procurement strategic roadmap and key enterprise procurement initiatives.  The DSL will also support the CPO, who is serving as the interim Head of Supply Chain, to manage key initiatives and forums with the Supply Chain organization in support of the Supply Chain strategic roadmap.


Experience in this role will give the DSL enterprise-wide exposure, executive decision-making experience, and options to transition into high-visibility roles upon successful completion of the rotation.


Work Environment:


*** This is a hybrid position based onsite at any of the posted locations with a minimum of 3 days onsite weekly.  Relocation and mobility assistance are not provided.

Reporting Relationships

This role reports to: Chief Procurement Officer (CPO) & Interim Head of Supply Chain


Main Responsibilities and Accountabilities

1. Organizational Impact: Recommends or implements operational plans and strategies that will directly impact the achievement of procurement’s functional results. Manages the operational plan and roadmap for procurement activities with short to mid-term impact on results (1-2 years), in direct support of the CPO's strategic roadmap.

2. Leadership and Talent Management: Responsible for providing guidance, coaching and training to other employees across the organization within the area of expertise. Responsible for managing complex projects and initiatives of strategic importance to the organization, involving multiple interfaces and cross-functional teams.

3. Communication and Influence: Communicates with parties within and outside the Procurement function, including responsibilities for communicating with parties external to the organization, which may include suppliers, partners, or customers. Works to influence others to adopt new concepts, practices and approaches. Frequently conducts briefings to senior leaders both inside and outside Procurement, in support of the CPO’s quarterly stakeholder engagements.

4. Innovation and Complexity: Responsible for improving upon existing processes and systems, using significant conceptualizing, reasoning and interpretation. Solutions are novel and unique and draw upon best practices based on expertise. Problems and issues faced are complex, requiring broad-based consideration of variables that impact multiple areas of the organization. Extensively analyzes problems to seek understanding of the root cause.

5. Executive Support: Effectively manages and leads key activities and processes supporting the CPO and Leadership Team. Serves as a thought partner to the CPO and contributes directly to the development and execution of the CPO's strategic roadmap and key initiatives.

6. Leadership Team Collaboration: Collaborates with and supports Leadership Team members on leadership initiatives and meetings that require their input or attendance. This includes setting expectations for team membership that drive the performance of Procurement.

7. Meeting and Agenda Management: Responsible for developing and circulating decision-driven meeting agendas for regular Leadership Team meetings. Responsible for creating transparency for agenda topic owners to enable timely and thoughtful preparation. Responsible for ensuring Leadership Team meeting pre-reads are designed to facilitate informed decision-making.

8. Cross-Functional Liaison: Responsible for liaising with other Decision Support Leads across the organization to ensure strategic priorities are communicated and aligned enterprise-wide, and for reporting back to the Leadership Team on feedback from the organization.

9. Process Coordination: Coordinates processes, organizational changes, communications, and outputs across Procurement as appropriate.

10. Stakeholder Connectivity: Responsible for connecting and collaborating with Category Management and Sourcing Leaders to guide and support synergies between Procurement and the rest of the organization, including external partners and stakeholders.

11. Performance Measurement: In collaboration with the Strategy, Innovation and COE team members, responsible for reporting Global Procurement KPIs and progress against current FY Objectives to the Leadership Team.

12. Initiative Delivery: Key role for implementing improvement initiatives to develop efficiencies, and for coordinating complex cross-functional projects and programs that advance the CPO's strategic priorities.


Minimum Qualifications:
  • Bachelors Degree in Business Management, Industrial Engineering, Procurement, Supply Chain or closely related field required. Advanced Degree in disciplines listed is preferred
  • 10+ years of experience in procurement, sourcing, category management, or supplier management in the biopharmaceutical, biotech, or another highly regulated industry
  • Mastery Level knowledge of Procurement, Sourcing, and Category Management obtained through advanced education combined with professional experience
  • Advanced knowledge in Project Management
  • Experience within an international matrix environment managing global programs, projects, organizational change, cross-functional teams and events
  • Experience acting as a credible trusted partner to executive or senior leaders, including direct experience supporting a C-suite executive's strategic agenda
  • Proven ability to communicate effectively and influence senior executive leadership regarding matters of strategic importance to the organization

***Travel approximately 20%.


The minimum and maximum base salary range that CSL expects to pay for this position at the Waltham, MA USA work location at the time of this posting is $224,000 - $274,000/yr. Individual base salary for a successful candidate is determined by qualifications, skill level, experience, competencies and other relevant factors. In addition to base salary, total compensation for this role may also include incentive compensation and equity.
