The Journal is a daily narrative news podcast produced in partnership with the Wall Street Journal. Each day, we tell one important news story in 15-20 minutes. We focus on money and business — applying those lenses to general news or zooming in on business stories other outlets don't tell. We've published explosive investigations into stand-your-ground laws and the fertility industry, covered news on the fast-moving world of OpenAI and the race to control artificial intelligence, and everything from Elon Musk’s business empire to the viral rise of Labubus. We work alongside some of the best business journalists in the world, and our show is heard by millions of listeners.

What You'll Do

  • Pitch story ideas tied to the news cycle that can be executed on a tight timeline, as well as contribute to longer-term projects
  • Book, prepare for, record, and produce interviews with sources inside and outside of the WSJ newsroom
  • Write scripts and shape narratives for episodes, with attention to pacing, tone, and story arc
  • Travel for and produce field reporting when stories require it
  • Log, cut, and arrange tape, build assemblies, score moments, and handle everything else production requires
  • Balance multiple episodes in production simultaneously
  • Build and maintain strong working relationships with Wall Street Journal reporters, editors, and staff

Who You Are

  • A minimum of 4 years producing audio in a fast-paced, high-volume newsroom or podcast operation
  • Experience producing a daily podcast is strongly preferred
  • Demonstrated ability to produce both longform and shortform content across narrative and interview-driven formats
  • Strong scriptwriting and story editing ability, with a feel for pacing and narrative structure
  • Solid technical skills across editing software, including Adobe Creative Suite, Pro Tools, or similar programs
  • Enthusiasm for a high-intensity daily production schedule
  • A genuine passion for the Wall Street Journal's reporting and business news broadly
  •

Where You'll Be

  • This is a full-time role based anywhere in New York, NY or Washington, D.C., working East coast hours.
  • This is a full-time role hybrid role, we ask that you come into the office 2–3 times per week.
  • This is a position covered under the Writers Guild of America East Collective Bargaining Agreement. Our recruitment team can answer any questions you may have about this representation. The base salary for this role is $95,000 USD
