About Numeral

Numeral is transforming how taxes get done. Digital businesses are currently bogged down by a painful web of regulations across 47 states and 70+ countries. We’re eliminating this burden so teams can focus on their core mission.

We’re the largest and fastest-growing AI-native tax solution. Started in 2023, Numeral has raised over $57M from Benchmark, Mayfield, Y-Combinator, and many others. We now serve over 3,000 paying customers and have more than tripled our revenue every year in our history.

About the Role

As a Product Designer at Numeral, you are accountable for outcomes, not artifacts. You work with PMs, engineers, and other designers to define the right problems in a domain most people find intimidating — sales tax, VAT, GST, filings, registrations — and ship product experiences that change how finance and accounting teams operate.

Design at Numeral is AI-first and builder-led. Work starts in an LLM, moves into tools like Claude Code and Cursor to explore flows and interactions, and then comes into Figma for systems and polish. Designers prototype early, test with real customers, and stay involved through launch and adoption — not handoff.

We're looking for designers who are excited to work this way and who want to use AI as a core part of how they design. Tax is a systems-heavy, high-stakes domain. The best designers here translate genuine complexity into experiences that feel obvious.

What You'll Do
  • Own product work end to end. Partner with PM and engineering to define problems, explore solution spaces, validate concepts, and ship improvements that move key metrics — activation, time-to-first-filing, registration completion, customer-reported confidence. Stay involved through launch and iteration.

  • Start in an LLM. Use Claude to clarify intent on ambiguous tax workflows, draft short PRDs, and surface edge cases (nexus thresholds, marketplace facilitator rules, exemption certificates, retroactive registrations). Use this to align quickly with your team.

  • Validate with self-serve research. Talk directly to controllers, AP leads, and founders running ecommerce, SaaS, and digital businesses. Run quick tests. Treat research as a velocity tool, not a gate.

  • Prototype using AI tools. Use Cursor and Claude Code to build and iterate on flows against real product surfaces. Let AI generate code while you guide structure, behavior, and UX quality. Partner with engineers to decide what moves into the product.

  • Bring work into Figma. Translate validated concepts into full state coverage, system alignment, and production readiness — including the long tail of tax-specific edge states (jurisdiction conflicts, filing errors, amendment flows).

  • Design for the 80 / 20. Tax has enormous hidden complexity. Encode judgment under the hood — let Minerva, our internal tax engine, do the heavy lifting — while keeping the default experience simple and successful for most customers.

  • Contribute to patterns and culture. Share prompts, patterns, and learnings. Participate in crits and reviews that raise the bar for craft across the team.

What You Need
  • Experience as a product designer on complex products, ideally B2B, fintech, accounting, or other systems-heavy environments.

  • Ownership of projects from problem definition through launch and iteration.

  • Active use of LLMs like Claude or ChatGPT in your design workflow.

  • Comfort in Cursor or Claude Code, even if you're not writing production code by hand.

  • A portfolio that shows strong product thinking, interaction design, and craft on dense, data-heavy surfaces.

  • Ability to work with PMs to define success metrics and adjust based on results.

  • Clear communication and comfort collaborating directly with engineers, PMs, and customers.

Nice to Haves
  • Experience planning and running customer interviews or usability tests with finance, accounting, or operations users.

  • Familiarity with design systems and extending shared components.

  • Comfort with front-end concepts (components, states, conditional logic).

What We Offer
  • Competitive salary and equity — you share directly in the company's success

  • Full medical, dental, and vision coverage

  • Wellness perks including Headspace and the Peloton One App

  • 401(k)

  • Lunch, dinner, and snacks in office

  • Regular team offsites and company events

  • A culture built on ownership — your work matters and people will see it
