OVERVIEW:
The D. E. Shaw group seeks a product manager to join its Human Capital Products team to support the ongoing development of data infrastructure that enables people analytics. This team manages technology that optimizes human capital processes and empowers the firm to make data-driven talent decisions. This role offers the chance to collaborate with analytics, technology, and human capital teams to deliver scalable, secure, and flexible business intelligence solutions—including leveraging generative AI to derive insights from non-traditional data sources—in an engaging and collegial working environment.

WHAT YOU'LL DO DAY-TO-DAY:

  • Partner with developers and analytics/business intelligence professionals to design efficient data transformations that support visually engaging analytics products.
  • Understand business needs, design technical solutions, specify requirements, and oversee development, testing, and rollout.
  • Own relationships with internal stakeholders and share responsibility for sprint planning, backlog grooming, and providing operational support for existing ETLs.
  • Gain a broad understanding of the proprietary systems and third-party products that make up the firm’s human capital systems landscape.

WHO WE’RE LOOKING FOR:

  • A bachelor’s degree or higher and three to seven years of relevant experience in product management are required, as is experience designing, implementing, and scaling data and analytics products.
  • Proficiency in basic SQL and advanced working knowledge of Excel are required.
  • Experience working directly with data engineers, data scientists, and software developers, on ETL designs, business intelligence infrastructure, or API specifications, is required.
  • Familiarity with best practices and functional expertise in data modeling, data architecture, and data infrastructure is preferred, as is experience with generative AI infrastructure (e.g., vector databases).
  • Excellent written and verbal communication (including explaining complex, technical ideas to a non-technical audience), organizational skills, a customer service mindset, and quick problem-solving abilities are critical.
  • Attention to detail, effective teamwork, project ownership, and the ability to exercise extreme discretion with confidential information are all essential.
  • The expected annual base salary for this position is $155,000 to $215,000. Our compensation and benefits package includes variable compensation in the form of a year-end bonus, guaranteed in the first year of hire, and benefits including medical and prescription drug coverage, 401(k) contribution matching, wellness reimbursement, family building benefits, and a charitable gift match program.
