Runwise (www.runwise.com) is a fast-paced, customer-focused climate-tech startup that controls and runs the key energy systems (heating, water, etc.) in 7000+ buildings throughout the US. Runwise’s unique hardware and software service significantly reduces energy usage, substantially lowering costs and carbon output. As of today, Runwise’s technology takes the equivalent of 100,000 cars worth of carbon emissions off the road each year. Runwise has offices in New York and Boston but is a remote-first product/engineering company, and has been since its creation.

We’re looking for a hardware-obsessed Product Manager to to drive the development of new devices, from initial concepts through to large-scale deployment across thousands of buildings. You will be responsible for identifying opportunities, shaping product strategy, and guiding execution for integrated hardware/software solutions that deliver real customer value.

As a Hardware PM, you’ll work closely with our engineering, manufacturing, operations, and product design teams, as well as external vendors, to ensure we deliver devices that are reliable, cost-effective, and delightful to use. You will play a critical role in turning ideas into physical products that materially reduce energy use and carbon emissions.

Responsibilities will include, but are not limited to:

  • Lead the full lifecycle of new device development, from concept and prototyping through pilot testing, certification, and mass deployment
  • Identify and prioritize opportunities for new hardware that advance Runwise’s mission and deliver measurable customer and business value
  • Establish and communicate the product vision, requirements, and roadmap for new devices
  • Collaborate with hardware, firmware, and software engineering teams to design, validate, and ship products on time and on budget
  • Work with operations and supply chain partners to ensure manufacturability, scalability, and cost-effectiveness
  • Manage pilot programs in live customer buildings, analyze performance data, and iterate to ensure product-market fit
  • Define and track success metrics for hardware adoption, reliability, and customer impact
  • Contribute to Runwise’s broader product strategy and represent hardware within cross-functional planning
  • Assist in scheduling, coordinating, and preparing for regulatory approval testing such as SGS, UL, FCC, and IC, among other possible entities.
  • Create and control a rigid framework of revision histories across hardware, firmware, software, and mechanical releases.
  • Assist the hardware team in managing internal changes to products as they develop in maturity.
  • Serve as the formal boundary between engineering and procurement to ensure that design files, bills of material, manufacturing instructions, and testing requirements are consistently up to date.

You have:

  • 5+ years of experience in product management, engineering, hardware development, or related fields
  • Proven experience taking a hardware product from idea to launch (ideally at scale)
  • Ability to balance technical, operational, and business tradeoffs when making decisions
  • Experience working with cross-disciplinary teams (electrical, mechanical, firmware, software)
  • Familiarity with manufacturing processes, supply chain, and vendor management
  • Strong analytical skills and ability to define and measure product success metrics
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to work across teams and with customers
  • Entrepreneurial mindset and ability to thrive in a fast-paced, high-growth environment
  • Experience with integrated hardware/software systems is a strong plus
  • Background in IoT, building systems, or energy/climate tech is a plus

Salary range: $160,000 - $200,000 based on experience level

What you believe:

  • No job is too small.
  • Sincerity builds trust.
  • Setbacks fuel progress.
  • Efficiency is vital.

  • Medical, dental, and vision insurance
  • HSA & FSA options

This is an excellent opportunity to join a fast-growing company, one of the true leaders within energy efficiency in the Northeast. You will be surrounded by talented people, including working very closely with our co-founder and sales leader. Your success will also make a tangible impact on reducing carbon emissions across the country, within the cities where we operate.
