We're hiring a VP of Product.
About our team and what we'll build together
We're looking for a VP of Product to join our leadership team. You and your team are responsible for product vision, strategy, delivery, and performance across our entire portfolio of consumer-facing products and the systems which drive those experiences. As the central product leader, you have a keen eye for identifying business opportunities, a passion for data driven decision making, and a spidey-sense for creating products and features that users love.
You will manage, mentor, and guide our dedicated staff of product managers, project managers, support personnel, and operations staff. You are an inclusive leader who encourages divergent views and uses them to create discourse that leads to the best outcome. You prioritize curiosity, possess a drive for self-learning, and a desire to keep up to date in new technologies, services, industry trends, and methodologies.
You are not just responsible for our product portfolio, but for evolving the culture by which we will deliver our best work. You have a passion for pushing the bounds of what's possible through ethical and inspired technology, mentoring and motivating colleagues and staff through shared learning and exploration, and fostering a positive culture of collaboration and accountability that continually improves upon itself.
How you'll contribute to our mission

  • Manage the product management, product/agile operations, and support teams
  • Build and maintain a culture of accountability, inclusion, positive morale, and a focus on driving results
  • Own our short and long term product roadmaps
  • Lead the transformation of product ideas from hypotheses into actionable concepts, timelines, and projects while considering financial implications, capacity, marketing needs, and the overall objectives of the business
  • Ensure continued audience-facing improvements, compliance, and security across our suite of products wrapped in an experience that continuously delights consumers and contributes to the growth of the organization
  • Develop and mentor staff; provide regular feedback and constantly ensure improvement in professional skills and attainment of career development goals
  • Manage stakeholder communications. Set and continually manage expectations
  • Understand and identify the best partners in our space and work with cross-functional teams to connect our vision with those partners
  • Oversee software development life-cycle processes that drive delivery toward a scalable product portfolio that will, in-turn, drive the organization's goals of audience and financial growth
  • Adapt, implement, and champion current best practices in digital development methodologies (e.g., Lean, Agile, user-centered design) and, where appropriate, work with other departments to understand and embrace them
  • Build and manage relationships with third parties across the technology and media landscape
  • Be the voice of the user - fearlessly advocating for user-focused product initiatives and improvements
  • Take a hands-on role on an as-needed basis

You're ready for this! Here's a bit more about what we're looking for

  • 10+ years of product management experience with progressively increasing responsibilities
  • 6+ years of leadership experience in a digital environment with robust technical products and constant innovation
  • Demonstrable process management experience in an SDLC environment of continual change
  • Strong technical acumen. Proven ability to understand complex technical systems and work closely with engineering organizations
  • Exceptional product management chops with previous ownership of consumer-facing products with full KPI responsibility
  • Effective negotiation and vendor management skills
  • Demonstrated ability to attract top talent and build high performing teams in competitive industries
  • Deep understanding of technology and media industries - including consumption methods, partners, technology, and platforms
  • Experience weighing strategic, operational, and budget factors to make and implement sound decisions around "build-vs-buy" options.
  • Superior written and oral communication skills
  • Experience with subscription-based businesses and fluency in digital marketing, advertising, newsletters, and SEO are a plus.
  • Ability to think big, while paying attention to detail; ability to balance product vision with business needs and technical constraints
  • Ability to organize and motivate large cross-functional teams and lead through influence
  • Self-learning and desire to keep up-to-date in new technologies, services, industry trends and methodologies
  • Collaborative, open, and able to have "strong opinions that are weakly held"
  • Strong quantitative and analytical abilities. Use data to drive decisions.
  • Entrepreneurial spirit and a willingness to take risks and move into uncharted territory
  • Tactical problem-solving skills and the readiness to get in the weeds when necessary
  • Ability to manage conflicting interests between teams and drive towards solutions
