Exceptional trading emerges where human intuition meets frictionless experimentation. Our platform and processes enable traders to rapidly investigate ideas, identify emergent patterns, and convert insights into live strategies. This synthesis creates a flywheel of discovery — the key to our pursuit of excellence.
Summit is an established systematic trading firm. We are looking for a skilled engineer in NYC to join our existing Production Engineering team.
Production Engineering is responsible for the daily operation of the Trading System. Our trading system is a set of distributed network applications running on Linux hosts. We use a mix of open-source and proprietary software to provide low latency direct market access to support a variety of systematic trading strategies. Production Engineering focuses on several areas of development:
- Monitoring / Alerting (e.g., Grafana, Wireshark)
- Deployment and Testing (Ansible, pytest)
- System Optimization (C++, hardware testing)
- Linux Native: Comfortable with file/process management, system troubleshooting, debugging, configuration, networking.
- GitOps: Understands the value of treating infrastructure as code, treating servers as cattle, not pets.
- Problem Solver: Our system needs to interface with a large number of external systems which occasionally have their own problems. A successful production engineer will notice patterns and propose upgrades that make everything more resilient.
- Tactical: Production Engineers must weigh risk/reward constantly when making decisions that impact the bottom line of our trading business. They need to understand the technical side of the system well enough to help traders and other non-technical users navigate these choices.
- High performance networking: Experience utilizing latest technology to achieve low deterministic latency with the highest possible throughput with the least possible jitter. (kernel bypass, hardware timestamping, multicast, cut through switches, etc.)
- Experience: 1-3 years of professional production engineering, site reliability engineering, system administration or related.
- Education: A Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field (Minimum GPA of 3.5 for recent graduates).
- Primary Language: Strong command of Python for backend development. You can write clean, efficient, and Pythonic code.
- Bonus (C++): While not required, familiarity with C++ is a strong plus. Our high-performance trading engines run on C++, and the ability to read or interface with that codebase is valuable.
- Technical Curiosity: You have a relentless drive to understand how things work under the hood. You aren't satisfied with "it works"—you want to know why.
- Attention to Detail: In trading, accuracy is paramount. You take pride in writing reliable code and handling edge cases gracefully.
- Collaborative Orientation: You are energized by working closely within a team, communicating clearly, and focusing on collective success.
- Driven by Impact: You take deep satisfaction in seeing your work have a direct, measurable effect on our operations.
