Job Description

AECOM is seeking a Project Controls Engineer III to support highway, bridge, and transportation construction projects in the Albany / Latham, NY area. This is an onsite role ideal for a project controls professional who enjoys being close to the work—partnering with construction teams, reviewing schedules in real time, and helping proactively manage risk and delays. This is an onsite position.

In this position, you will play a key role in reviewing and analyzing contractor CPM schedules, supporting delay mitigation strategies, and providing hands-on scheduling and project setup support using Oracle Primavera P6 and Unifier. You’ll collaborate closely with construction staff through site visits, schedule review meetings, and constructability assessments to ensure schedule integrity and informed decision-making throughout the project lifecycle.

This person will be responsible for but not limited to the following:

  • Review and analyze Contractor’s Critical Path Method (CPM) Progress Schedules on various transportation construction contracts.  
  • Provide recommendations to construction staff on the avoidance, minimization and mitigation of construction phase delays
  • Review and analysis of Contractor’s requests for contract Time Extensions
  • Conduct periodic construction project site visits to monitor project progress and assure progress schedule integrity, and participate in regular progress schedule meetings with construction team
  • Provide construction management, scheduling and project set up services for all projects on enterprise P6 system.
  • Develop or review Suggested Preliminary Construction Schedules during the final design stage based on the available plans, specifications and estimate provided by the project designer
  • Conduct constructability reviews of the plans and specifications
  • Assist in updating policies, procedures, specifications of guidance related to construction project management
  • Administer enterprise databases for both Oracle Primavera P6 and Unifier are administered. 
  • Administering Oracle Primavera Business Intelligence application for various updates and reporting. 
  • Assist users of P6 enterprise system setting-up projects and assigning appropriate security to project folders.

  • Developing ability to use drawings and specifications
  • Exposed to progress/performance data and associated concepts and principles. Assists in the collection of progress data and review of performance trends
  • Develops knowledge of earned value concepts, principles and methodology
  • Collects data and produces an initial analysis on manpower, labor hour, and labor cost requirements versus budget limitations
  • Collects data and produces an initial analysis for tracking actual cost to funding limitations
  • Provides support for tracking purchase orders and subcontract commitments and expenditures
  • Exposed to the concepts and principles of project revenue and cost
  • Develops knowledge of scope control and change management
  • Exposure to basic scheduling and cost baseline fundamentals, concepts and principles

Qualifications

Minimum Requirements

  • BA/BS in Engineering, Architecture or Construction Management + 4 years of related experience or demonstrated equivalency of experience and/or education
  • Valid U.S. Driver's License

Preferred Requirements

  • Oracle Primavera P6 experience, highway bridge construction experience, excellent communication skills.
  • Prefer Masters degree
  • 1 year related transportation construction experience and/or P6 experience 
  • 1+ years construction inspection experience related to heavy highway and bridge construction projects and/or creating or reviewing construction schedules 
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills 
  • Experience with Oracle Primavera P6 software applications when used in an enterprise environment, and  experience troubleshooting and resolving P6 software related issues
  • Technical Skills:  Microsoft Word, Microsoft Excel, Oracle Primavera P6
  • Experience cost loading and reviewing cost loaded construction schedules
  • Experience with time impact analysis and various delay analysis methods
  • Prefer AACE International certification as a Planning & Scheduling Professional (PSP) or Project Management Institute (PMI) as a Scheduling Professional (PMI-SP)
