Senior Academic Technologist
Overview
Under the supervision of the Director Academic Technology the Senior Academic Technologist will oversee, support and promote the effective use of technology and design in teaching, research and administrative initiatives. The Senior Academic Technologist will implement pedagogical best practices and supporting educational technologies needed to effectively execute course mission, aligning to departmental goals & objectives. This position will oversee end-to-end development of courses during each design cycle; as well as the piloting of new tools, including the analysis, application, and post-assessment of tools. Additionally, the Senior Academic Technologist will collaborate closely with Department Chairs and senior leadership at Steinhardt in new program development, curricular renovation, and the design of hybrid and online courses. Similarly, the Senior Academic Technologist will work with specific departments to conduct professional development about integrated uses of technology and create opportunities for faculty to experiment with emerging learning technologies. They will work with Steinhardt Administrative departments in order to aid in the streamlining of processes and initiatives within the respective Administrative departments; and collaborate with Administrative departments in effectively executing specific departmental and programmatic goals (both academic and administrative).
Responsibilities
Required Education:
Bachelors degree
Preferred Education:
MA in educational technology or media, instructional technology or related field strongly preferred
Required Experience:
Minimum 5 years of professional work experience or the equivalent education and years of work experience; experience with instructional design models and/or instructional technology and distance learning.
Preferred Experience:
Experience with data visualization tools.
Required Skills, Knowledge and Abilities:
Demonstrated knowledge of adult learning theory, instructional design models, instructional technology and distance education. Demonstrated experience working with curriculum and assessment. Experience collaborating with other information technology professionals on joint projects. Strong written and oral communication skills, and the ability to maintain high levels of creativity and quality; Ability to be flexible in work assignments that may require changing priorities regularly; Strong organizational skills and the ability to meet project deadlines, stay on track, and communicate workflow obstacles. Ability to be proactive, take ownership of assigned responsibilities, and work independently; Creative problem solving abilities and initiatives. Ability to work with all levels of employees across the University and be able to effectively communicate to various key constituencies.
Preferred Skills, Knowledge and Abilities:
User Experience Design Designing graphical elements of web applications. Ability to work with with Photoshop, Illustrator, and other graphics development tools.
