A Day in Your Life at MKS – Quality Engineer
(Entry-Level candidates with formal quality training or hands-on experience are welcome)
As a Quality Engineer at Ophir Photonics, part of MKS Instruments, you’ll be at the heart of ensuring our products meet the highest standards. You’ll collaborate with Engineering, Operations, Sales, and Customers to support and improve our business processes and product quality.
This role is ideal for candidates who have completed quality-related coursework, certification (CQE or similar), or practical experience in quality processes. It offers a hands-on opportunity to grow in a dynamic, high-tech environment. You’ll be involved in everything from analyzing data and improving processes to working with suppliers and supporting calibration and compliance activities.
You Will Make an Impact By:
- Supporting supplier quality control, including testing incoming parts and auditing suppliers.
- Managing tool calibration, both internally and through external labs.
- Handling Material Review Board (MRB) activities and scrap control.
- Analyzing customer returns and failure data to identify trends and drive improvements.
- Leading or participating in Quality Improvement Teams (QIT) and initiatives.
- Conducting internal audits and supporting external audits for ISO standards (ISO 9001, ISO/IEC 17025, ISO 14001).
- Using quality tools such as FMEA, 8D problem-solving, SPC, and process flow analysis.
- Driving improvements in calibration processes and supporting site KPIs.
Skills You Bring:
- A relevant engineering degree (Quality, Physics, Optics, Electrical, Mechanical, or Materials Science) with quality certification or experience.
- Mandatory: Exposure to quality processes or tools (internship, project work, or coursework).
- Ability to read and interpret technical drawings.
- Strong analytical skills and proficiency in Microsoft Office.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Preferred: CQE certification, experience with mechanical/electrical parts inspection, familiarity with BI tools, and strong English language skills.
