Job Responsibilities
- Manage exposure to a client base consisting of North American Life, Property & Casualty, Reinsurance, Brokers and other related financial institutions
- Lead the due diligence and risk grading of your portfolio; evaluate and action credit requests, risk grading, and on-going monitoring and management of a diverse portfolio of risk including traditional credit products, markets products (derivatives, trading, and financing), intraday liquidity facilities, and other credit exposures
- Demonstrate sound credit judgement and effective risk monitoring through collaboration across multiple lines of business and credit teams
- Manage the daily risk demands of a portfolio of clients, evaluating and executing on a variety of transactions for insurance companies and similar financial institutions
- Oversee transaction execution, including client analysis, preparation of credit approval materials, lead discussions with bankers, legal documentation negotiation, setup of credit facilities and ongoing monitoring of clients post transaction approval
- Build strong relationships and maintain open communication channels with colleagues across the firm, including bankers, operations, legal, and finance
- Monitor clients and update key stakeholders on important developments with regard to clients or industry and potential impact on credit ratings
- Stay informed about the evolving economic, legislative, and regulatory environment that impacts the insurance sector
- Provide leadership and input into key projects and contribute to process and efficiency improvement initiatives
- Manage, train and mentor the team's junior credit officers, fostering their development and growth
Required Qualifications, Capabilities and Skills
- Bachelor's Degree required
- 7+ years of credit risk experience within a bank or other financial services entity
- Highly proficient in insurance company credit analysis
- Knowledge of GAAP and statutory accounting: ability to analyze financial statements
- Deep understanding of financial products, corporate finance and market dynamics
- Experience negotiating loan and trading documentation
- Outstanding verbal and written communication skills; strong client interaction abilities
- Proven ability to perform well under pressure in a demanding environment
- Highly proficient in Excel, PowerPoint and Word
Preferred Qualifications, Capabilities and Skills
- Completion of a bank's formal credit training program
- Advanced degree (MA, MBA, CFA) preferred
- Corporate finance and accounting coursework
