eBay is seeking a dedicated, team-oriented, and highly skilled Senior AI Engineer to join our Core AI division. This is an exciting opportunity to work with a highly visible and well-positioned team at one of the most established and heavily trafficked ecommerce companies in the world. You will be part of an agile team driving forward some of eBay’s most important and impactful AI initiatives.

You will work closely with Software Engineers, Researchers, and Data Engineers across the full AI lifecycle: from early experimentation and prototyping to deploying production-grade AI systems that support millions of users. Your focus will include Multimodal Generative AI system, working with videos, images, and textual data, and  contributing to both infrastructure and end-user capabilities.

• Design, build, and optimize systems that use multimodal data and Generative AI architectures in scalable, reliable, and cost-effective ways.

• Lead development of AI led user experiences, including those using videos, live-streams, images, audio and textual data.

• Help advance eBay’s internal platform for GenAI applications, contributing reusable components, and APIs.

• Monitor and optimize AI systems in production for performance, quality, and responsible AI use.

• Stay current with the latest advances in AI/ML and apply a critical lens when integrating new models or tools into the product stack.

• Drive iteration on design, implementation, and evaluation processes based on experimentation and team feedback.

• 8+ years in software or machine learning engineering roles.

• 4+ years of focused experience developing and deploying AI-centric systems that use visual or multimodal data.

• 2+ years building generative-AI systems, including systems that incorporate VLMs, diffusion models, or other multimodal models.

• Proven success in taking AI-powered products from prototype to production, with an emphasis on maintainability, performance, and user impact.

• Strong programming skills in Java or similar JVM languages, with working proficiency in Python and ML frameworks (e.g., PyTorch, TensorRT).

• Hands-on experience with:

  • Docker & Kubernetes

  • Big Data technologies (e.g., Hadoop, Spark)

  • UI/UX considerations in application development

• Bonus qualifications:

  • Working knowledge of Spring Framework

  • Familiarity with streaming data systems (e.g., Kafka, Flink, Beam, Storm)

  • Familiarity with vector stores (PgVector, FAISS, Pinecone)

  • Experience with C++ and CUDA for performance-critical components

• Strategic thinker with a strong technical foundation and a bias for action.

• Excellent communicator who can bridge the gap between research, engineering, and product.

• Deep curiosity and hands-on experimentation with the evolving VLM/LLM ecosystem.

• Strong commitment to building responsible, ethical, and impactful AI systems.

• A collaborative, self-driven mindset and genuine excitement to push the boundaries of what’s possible with AI at eBay.

The base pay range for this position is expected in the range below:

Base pay offered may vary depending on multiple individualized factors, including location, skills, and experience. The total compensation package for this position may also include other elements, including a target bonus and restricted stock units (as applicable) in addition to a full range of medical, financial, and/or other benefits (including 401(k) eligibility and various paid time off benefits, such as PTO and parental leave). Details of participation in these benefit plans will be provided if an employee receives an offer of employment.
