Global Marketing Strategy (GMS) combines product marketing, creative and digital teams with strategic functions responsible for planning, project management, firm integration, innovation and analytics to support the product and corporate development initiatives across MSIM. The Investment Writer is part of the editorial function on the GMS Creative Team, collaborating directly with the design and audio/visual functions.

About the Role:

The Investment Writer is primarily responsible for creating and editing thought leadership content that supports a range of investment products and themes. As a skilled short-form and long-form writer, this individual works closely with investment teams, product marketing and channel marketing, demonstrating in-depth knowledge of a broad range of products and strategies distributed to wealth managers and institutional investors.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Write, edit and amplify key investment content, including insights, outlooks, whitepapers, video scripts, infographics, social media posts, emails and web copy.
  • Research investment topics and themes across a variety of traditional, alternative and innovative asset classes in public and private markets, including equity, fixed income, solutions and multi-asset.
  • Follow market and economic trends to support the communication of investment management views on timely topics.
  • Lead the editorial process, interviewing subject matter experts, gathering and interpreting independent research, developing outlines and revising drafts.
  • Oversee content until completion, coordinating with marketing content review, design and digital teams.
  • Customize editorial content to meet the distinct needs of different audiences and for delivery across various media, including print, web, audio and video.
  • Assume additional editorial duties as requested or assigned.

Job Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Journalism, Finance, Economics or equivalent preferred. Advanced degrees and/or professional designations (CFA, CAIA) are advantages.
  • Minimum of five years investment writing experience, familiarity with cryptocurrency investing is a plus.
  • Excellent writing and editing skills.
  • Broad and deep knowledge of asset management and/or ability to learn.
  • Ability to research complex topics and interview investment professionals.
  • Ability to communicate complex financial topics in a clear and concise manner.
  • Ability to think creatively, conceptually and strategically.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously, meeting tight deadlines.
  • Strong interpersonal and relationship management skills.
  • Strong attention to detail and accuracy.

Massachusetts and New York: Expected base pay rates for the role will be between $75,000 and $115,000 per year at the commencement of employment. However, base pay if hired will be determined on an individualized basis and is only part of the total compensation package, which, depending on the position, may also include commission earnings, incentive compensation, discretionary bonuses, other short and long-term incentive packages, and other Morgan Stanley sponsored benefit programs.

Washington State: Salary range for the position: $75,000 - $115,000 Yr. The successful candidate may be eligible for an annual discretionary incentive compensation award. The successful candidate may be eligible to participate in the relevant business unit’s incentive compensation plan, which also may include a discretionary bonus component.
