Senior Backend Engineer

As a Senior Backend Engineer at Via, you’ll work within our core R&D center as a member of our Platform team. You’ll be part of a team of developers and devops engineers, directly contributing to our product by using cutting-edge technologies. You’ll take a critical part in our mission to shape the future of transportation, affecting tens of thousands of riders daily worldwide.

The Platform Group is a cross-functional group dedicated to building and maintaining the robust foundation on which Via operates. This team is responsible for designing, implementing, and managing cloud infrastructure, Kubernetes clusters, CI/CD systems, shared services and tools that power our development and production environments.

**This is a hybrid position with the expectation that you will be onsite in NYC 2-3 days a week.**

What You'll Do:

• Design, build, and maintain scalable backend systems that improve Via’s platform.
• Own backend features end-to-end, from architecture and implementation to deployment and maintenance.
• Define infrastructure and standards for engineering teams across the company.
• Research and recommend new technologies for our engineering teams.
• Develop a deep understanding of the software and architecture at Via.
• Debug, troubleshoot, and resolve backend issues to ensure system uptime and performance.
• Work closely with partner teams across the company to enable success.

Who You Are:

• 5+ years of experience building robust backend or full-stack software systems.
• Expertise in developing and maintaining APIs, distributed systems, and efficient database architectures.
• Familiar with cloud platforms, CI/CD pipelines, and infrastructure tools (e.g., Docker, Kubernetes, Terraform).
• Skilled in system design, debugging, and performance optimization.
• Commitment to a collaborative distributed environment imbued with professionalism, integrity, passion, and accountability.

Compensation and Benefits:

• Final salary will be determined by the candidate’s experience, knowledge, and skills. Salary reflected does not include equity or variable pay, where applicable
• Salary Range: $160,000 - $200,000 per year
