We deliver environmental and sustainability services to our clients through the integration of over 30 advisory, technical environmental, and engineering disciplines to help clients address some of their most complex challenges around sustainability. As our new Senior Consultant, Multi Strategy, you will play an important role on a team whose work is essential to achieving this goal.
 

Role

Malk Partners (the Responsible Finance team within SLR) advises leading investors on responsible investment. The team assists asset managers in establishing best-in-class environmental, social, and governance (ESG) programs that are deployed throughout the investment lifecycle to mitigate risk and create value. Malk was an early entrant into this rapidly evolving industry and continues to be at the forefront of ESG innovation and defining best practices.

Malk’s dedicated Multi-Strategy team was formed to better serve the world’s largest asset managers with diversified portfolios across a range of asset classes (e.g., private equity, private credit, infrastructure, real estate, secondaries) in executing against their ESG commitments and strengthening their overall ESG programs to create value and meet investor expectations.  
 

Job Description

Senior Consultants act as strategic advisors to clients, translating ESG considerations into value creation opportunities and operational improvements. They play a key role in guiding team members to effectively deliver on complex workstreams, and also help expand client relationships, identifying opportunities to deepen or broaden Malk’s support. Over time, Senior Consultants may have the opportunity to become managers of around one to three individuals.

Responsibilities:

ESG Due Diligence Engagements: 

  • Lead ESG due diligence engagements for Multi-Strategy clients, steering a team typically comprised of Associates, Senior Associates and Consultants, to assess a target company’s operations, strategic positioning, and material ESG risks and opportunities
  • Oversee and guide a project manager’s review of primary documents and targeted research; conduct diligence discussions with management teams
  • Produce high-quality, analytically rigorous diligence reports with specific and actionable recommendations for risk mitigation and sustainability-driven value creation
  • Ensure accuracy, consistency, and strategic relevance of diligence findings prior to VP/SVP review
  • Identify patterns and themes across the team’s work to strengthen Malk’s internal tools, frameworks, and ESG evaluation methodologies
     

ESG Advisory Engagements: 

  • Develop a deep understanding of a client’s investment strategy, asset classes, ESG approach, portfolio composition, and operating context 
  • Translate ESG frameworks, regulatory developments, and emerging best practices into tailored recommendations aligned with client priorities
  • Lead review and delivery of major ESG advisory work products—including projects such as sustainability program benchmarking, ESG diligence integration strategies, maturity assessments, annual ESG reports, data projects and voluntary and mandatory ESG framework preparation 
  • Serve as a primary point of contact for day-to-day client interactions, balancing multiple stakeholder preferences across accounts and escalating complex issues to VP/SVP as needed
  • Shape the narrative, logic, and analytical structure of client deliverables; ensure all materials meet Malk’s quality standards 
  • Oversee and coach junior team members,delegating workstreams, reviewing outputs, and providing actionable feedback
     

Contribute to practice development by synthesizing learnings across engagements and using these insights to refine Malk’s templates, tools, and internal knowledge base

  • The salary range for this position is $155,000 to $165,000, with the final agreed upon compensation to be commensurate with individual education, professional designation, experience, internal parity, and location.

  • Location: New York; Hybrid model: In-Office Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday
     

Qualifications/Education/Memberships:

  • Top candidates will have 5-7 years of experience in management or sustainability consulting, investment banking or a similar field with working or academic experience in ESG/sustainability, or in-house responsible investment roles. Experience working with private markets investors is preferred but not required.
  • Demonstrated leadership (formal or informal) and project management experience
  • Strong client-service orientation
  • Comfort in working in a fast-paced environment, managing simultaneous workstreams and responding to novel requests
  • Strong critical thinking, qualitative reasoning, and problem-solving skills, and attention to detail
  • Exceptional organization, writing, research, communication, and presentation skills (including use of PowerPoint)  
  • Experience with Excel and data management preferred
  • Demonstrated track record of success in a rigorous academic environment
