Citi is looking for a Senior Counsel, Cybersecurity Legal to join a high-impact global team at the forefront of one of the most consequential legal domains in financial services today. In this Senior Vice President-level role, you will serve as a trusted legal advisor on cybersecurity, information security, AI governance, and emerging technology regulation, directly shaping how Citi navigates a rapidly evolving legal and regulatory landscape. This is a critical role with global scope, partnering closely with business, technology, and risk functions to deliver pragmatic, commercially grounded legal counsel.
Responsibilities- Advise cybersecurity and information security stakeholders on all aspects of incident prevention and response, including customer and regulatory notifications, contractual obligations, and legal risk mitigation strategies.
- Counsel Citi's Cybersecurity Fusion Center and business lines on legal risks across the cyber and information security program, including incident response strategies, incident investigations, and regulatory compliance matters.
- Track existing and proposed cybersecurity rules and regulations across global and U.S. federal and state jurisdictions, providing legal interpretations that inform and shape Citi's compliance strategy.
- Advise on emerging technologies, including frontier AI, generative and agentic AI use cases, and post-quantum cryptography, from a cybersecurity legal perspective, contributing to the organization's readiness for next-generation security challenges.
- Advise on the development and implementation of information security governance frameworks, and update cybersecurity policies, playbooks, and frameworks as needed.
- Draft and deliver cybersecurity presentations, exercises, and training sessions, and lead tabletop simulations that strengthen Citi's institutional readiness for information security events.
- At least 5-7 years of relevant legal experience, preferably four years of which should be related to advising clients on cybersecurity issues or supporting an information security team. Exceptional candidates with the necessary skill set may be eligible to be considered for the role, regardless of their level of experience.
- Juris Doctorate or equivalent law degree, with a bar license in good standing.
- Deep knowledge of cybersecurity legal frameworks, including incident response, breach notification requirements, and information security regulation across multiple jurisdictions.
- Demonstrated ability to manage complex, multi-party legal matters and translate regulatory complexity into clear, actionable guidance for senior business stakeholders.
- Strong communication and negotiation skills, with a track record of building trusted relationships across legal, business, and technology functions.
- Sound legal judgment in fast-paced, high-stakes environments, with the ability to balance legal risk and business practicality.
- Leadership capability, including the ability to set direction, hold others accountable, and supervise legal work across teams.
- Familiarity with AI governance frameworks, frontier AI risk considerations, or the legal and regulatory treatment of generative and agentic AI systems.
- Exposure to post-quantum cryptography concepts and the evolving legal implications for financial institutions.
- Experience engaging with law enforcement, government agencies, or regulators in the context of cyber or information security incidents.
