Senior Culture Editor, GQ US

Location: New York, NY
Company: Condé Nast

Overview

GQ is a global authority on style, culture, and modern masculinity, reaching millions of readers across print, digital, video, social, and emerging platforms. As part of Condé Nast’s global network, GQ covers culture through a distinctive lens—one that blends authority, curiosity, style, wit, and a deep understanding of the conversations shaping modern life.

GQ is seeking a Senior Culture Editor to lead the entertainment-focused vertical of GQ.com, overseeing ambitious, fast-moving coverage of film, television, music, podcasts, YouTube, streaming culture, sportxs, internet creators, and the broader entertainment ecosystem that captures the attention of GQ’s audience. In owning both daily coverage and ambitious projects, profiles, and projects across multiple platforms, this role will drive cultural conversation…and maybe start a few (good-natured) arguments in the process.

The ideal candidate is an experienced editor with exceptional editorial instincts, strong news judgment, and a sophisticated understanding of entertainment, sports, and pop culture. They should be equally comfortable driving daily coverage, developing long-term editorial franchises, editing sharply-conceived features and celebrity profiles, and helping shape ambitious multi-platform storytelling across web, print, newsletter, social, and video. They’ll get as excited by a best-of (or worst-of) list as by a flawlessly executed celebrity profile. They’ll develop new writers and voices, and work closely with colleagues across the brand to make GQ’s entertainment coverage unmissable. And they bring a vision for how to make that happen.

This role reports directly to the Executive Editor.

Primary ResponsibilitiesEntertainment Vertical Leadership

  • Direct coverage spanning film, television, music, podcasts, YouTube, streaming culture, digital creators, sports, and emerging entertainment platforms

  • Deliver stories and coverage that resonate with and expand GQ’s broad audience—including digital subscribers

  • Identify and lead coverage of the biggest entertainment and cultural stories of the moment with a mix of voice, authority, thoughtfulness, and originality

  • Develop recurring editorial franchises, packages, and content initiatives that strengthen GQ’s entertainment identity across platforms

  • Coordinate editorial coverage for major tentpole moments, including awards seasons, premieres, festivals, album launches, major releases, and other notable cultural events

  • Help shape the tone, cadence, and editorial voice of entertainment coverage across the brand

  • Work closely with GQ’s features team to assign, edit, and manage major profiles, features, interviews, and enterprise stories online and periodically in print

  • Collaborate with staff writers, editors, freelancers, and contributors to develop distinctive reporting and storytelling

  • Cultivate relationships with publicists, studios, labels, streamers, talent representatives, creators, and entertainment industry sources

  • Manage editorial budgets related to entertainment coverage, freelance commissioning, and tentpole programming

  • Oversee freelance assignments and contributor relationships within the vertical

  • Maintain strong editorial judgment, accuracy, and reporting standards across all coverage

  • Foster a collaborative editorial environment while mentoring writers and editors where appropriate

Qualifications
  • 7+ years of editorial experience covering entertainment, culture, media, or celebrity journalism

  • Strong experience managing digital editorial programming and fast-paced cultural coverage

  • Excellent editing skills with experience shaping features, profiles, criticism, and conversation-driven journalism

  • Deep understanding of the entertainment industry and contemporary pop culture landscape

  • Strong news judgment and the ability to identify stories that will resonate with a broad, digitally engaged audience

  • Experience developing editorial franchises, programming strategies, and cross-platform storytelling initiatives

  • Familiarity with audience development, social media ecosystems, newsletters, and digital publishing trends

  • Strong organizational and communication skills with the ability to manage multiple editorial priorities simultaneously
