We are looking for a Senior Data Architect/Engineer to own the growth of EnrollHere’s Data Platform. Our Databricks platform will be scaling dramatically in the next year and increasingly supports application and advanced analytics use cases, not just BI. As consumption becomes more automated, data correctness and stability are non-negotiable. This role owns the Databricks platform and the data products built on top of it, balancing hands-on delivery with architectural oversight.
Responsibilities- Design and build production-grade data products:
- Explicit schemas and semantic definitions
- Versioning and backward-compatibility strategies
- Defined freshness and quality expectations
- Implement quality enforcement as part of the platform:
- Validation at ingestion and transformation layers
- Clear ownership and visibility when data breaks
- Blocking vs non-blocking failures based on consumer impact
- Architect the platform for rapid growth:
- Compute isolation and concurrency planning
- Partitioning and layout strategies
- Cost and performance optimization
- Build and maintain core platform components:
- Reusable ingestion and transformation patterns
- CI/CD and testing standards for data workloads
- Act as the architectural decision-maker while remaining an active contributor
- Databricks Lakehouse architecture (Azure-first, some GCP)
- Data products with clear schemas, contracts, and consumers
- Data quality and correctness across the platform
- Interfaces for downstream consumption (tables, views, curated datasets)
- Platform scalability, reliability, and governance
Requirements
- Owning Databricks platforms in production at meaningful scale
- Designing data quality systems beyond ad-hoc checks
- Strong Azure experience (ADLS, IAM, security patterns)
- Hands-on Spark development (internals a plus, not required)
- Building platforms used by multiple teams with real dependencies
- Comfort operating as both builder and overseer
