The Senior Data Platform Engineer – Python/AWS Specialist is responsible for designing, building, and operating enterprise-grade data pipelines that support critical business functions such as pricing analytics, trading systems, hedging models, and pooling operations. This role is for a high-discipline engineer who “raises the floor” of the team’s technical standards, with a strong focus on infrastructure, streaming, and production reliability. This role focuses on production-ready Python solutions and AWS-native architectures, ensuring scalable, reliable, and high-performance data platforms. The engineer is expected to act as a system designer, not a ticket executor, contributing to architecture decisions and long-term platform evolution. The engineer is expected to apply strong software engineering principles, lead complex ETL/ELT and orchestration initiatives, and contribute to event-driven and cloud-native data architectures in a regulated financial environment.

• Design, develop, and maintain production-grade Python applications using OOP principles and enterprise design patterns.

• Build and integrate RESTful APIs and microservices using frameworks such as FastAPI or Flask.

• Develop and optimize complex ETL/ELT data pipelines using Pandas, NumPy, SQLAlchemy, PySpark, and related tools.

• Architect and implement cloud-native data solutions leveraging AWS services such as Lambda, Glue, Step Functions, S3, EventBridge, and Kinesis, with strong emphasis on AWS Batch and streaming with Kinesis.

• Design and operate scalable orchestration workflows using Airflow, Prefect, or AWS Step Functions.

• Implement event-driven and serverless architectures for both real-time and batch data processing, with a focus on high-throughput streaming systems.

• Manage infrastructure using Infrastructure as Code (IaC) tools such as CloudFormation, CDK, or Terraform, with AWS CDK as the primary and preferred framework.

• Containerize and deploy services using Docker and orchestrate workloads with ECS or Kubernetes.

• Establish DataOps best practices, including CI/CD pipelines, automated testing with pytest, and data quality validation using Great Expectations.

• Collaborate with technical and non-technical stakeholders to translate business requirements into robust data solutions, and actively participate in architecture and design reviews.

• Senior-level Python engineer with a strong production mindset and experience delivering reliable, scalable systems.

• 5+ years of software engineering experience, including 4+ years of hands-on, production-grade Python development (including async programming).

• Proven experience designing and implementing ETL/ELT pipelines and modern data architectures.

• Strong hands-on experience with AWS data and orchestration services in real-world production environments, including AWS Batch and Kinesis.

• Experience with asynchronous Python, event-driven systems, and microservices architectures.

• Practical knowledge of Infrastructure as Code and container-based deployments, with strong proficiency in AWS CDK.

• Familiarity with data warehousing solutions such as Snowflake or SQL Server.

• Background in Financial Services or Mortgage domains, including exposure to regulatory reporting and risk management data.

• Bonus: experience with MDM platforms and customer data tools such as Reltio or Tealium.

• Strong communication skills, with the ability to explain complex technical concepts to business and project stakeholders.

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Data Engineering, or a related technical field.
