ABOUT BLACK GIRLS CODE

Black Girls Code (BGC) is building a future where learners are not just participants in tech—they are leaders, innovators, and decision-makers shaping it. Our mission is to equip students with the skills, confidence, and community they need to thrive in Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, and Math (STEAM) fields and ensure they know they belong.

BGC delivers industry-relevant education throughout adolescence and creates pathways to college, careers, and entrepreneurship. We’re not just preparing young people for the workforce—we’re preparing them to lead it.

*We recognize identity as a spectrum of color and gender. If you want to learn tech and help shift the reality that Black women hold only 2% of tech jobs, you belong here.

Why this role matters

BGC is entering a bold new chapter. No longer just a youth program, we’re evolving into a national platform for intergenerational tech equity—expanding our reach, deepening our impact, and reimagining what inclusion in tech looks like.

We are seeking a Senior Director of Marketing and Communications to lead this evolution and shape the voice of our movement. Reporting directly to the CEO, this senior leader will architect and drive our integrated marketing and communications strategy across all platforms. You’ll serve as the steward of our brand, amplifying the voices of our community, telling powerful stories of impact, and creating strategic campaigns that activate supporters, funders, partners, and learners.

This is pivotal to building trust, deepening community engagement, and unifying messaging across audiences and departments. You’ll inherit a lean marketing function with foundational elements in place and the opportunity to scale systems, culture, and strategy for long-term success.

Your day-to-day

  • Develop and execute an integrated marketing and communications strategy aligned with organizational goals
  • Drive brand awareness, program participation, volunteer engagement, and donor support
  • Build cross-functional collaboration frameworks that unite programming, development, and community engagement efforts
  • Lead go-to-market planning and messaging across programs, platforms, and audiences
  • Craft compelling narratives that highlight BGC's impact, student achievements, and community stories
  • Integrate PR, social, and storytelling into cohesive, values-aligned campaigns
  • Oversee social media strategy to grow reach, engagement, mission awareness, and inspire action
  • Manage marketing budgets, agency/vendor partnerships, and resource allocation
  • Establish clear reporting structures, KPIs, and feedback loops to measure and communicate marketing's impact
  • Serve as a thought partner to the CEO and leadership team on brand, communications, and visibility

What Makes You a Great Fit

  • A visionary and hands-on marketing leader who knows how to move from strategy to execution
  • Deep storytelling intuition with an ability to communicate across diverse identities and stakeholder types
  • Skilled bridge-builder who collaborates cross-functionally and inspires shared ownership
  • Committed to building inclusive, equitable practices into all aspects of the work
  • Love structure and systems, but value creativity and adaptability
  • Believe deeply in the mission of tech equity and are energized by movement work

What You’ll Love About Us

  • Hybrid/WFH Model: MacBook provided + WFH setup credit during onboarding
  • Time Off: 15 vacation days your first year, PLUS wellness and sick days
  • Holidays & Winter Break: 12 paid holidays + a year-end Winter Break.
  • Comprehensive Coverage: Generous medical, vision, and dental plans, 403(b), and more
  • Purpose-Driven Work: Be a part of an organization that empowers the next generation of technology leaders.
  • Opportunity for Impact: Play a pivotal role in driving equity and representation in the tech industry.
  • Supportive Culture: Join a collaborative team passionate about equity, inclusion, and creativity.

  • Ready to make an impact? Apply today to help drive the future of Black Girls Code!
