Position Overview:

Level & Co. is a secondary market gallery specializing in Post-War and Contemporary art from abstract expressionism to neo-expressionism to 21st-century masters. As a Masterworks affiliate, we act as the primary sourcing agent to find collectors interested in purchasing paintings.  Additionally, we broker secondary market works between collectors.  Collectively, the team sees more than $100 million per year in secondary market activity.

We are looking for a savvy, resourceful, and diligent New York-based senior sales specialist with a deep focus on Post War and Contemporary Art to join our team and help lead sales efforts. Our ideal candidate has a strong history of sourcing and selling blue-chip contemporary artworks from $1M to $50 million in value and is motivated by combining a passion for art with thoughtful and data-driven deal-making.

You will be responsible for:

  • Developing and managing relationships with collectors, dealers, art advisors, and auction specialists
  • Working with the Private Sales team to sell works through advisors and ultimately directly to collectors
  • Leading primary client coverage on a group of elite and emerging collectors
  • Develop and maintain collector buy lists to inform acquisitions and Private Sales
  • Gathering market intelligence to include upcoming catalysts for individual artist markets
  • Assembling due diligence on buyers and/or intermediaries
  • Conducting analyses of a work’s current and future market potential
  • Proactively generating new sales opportunities by sourcing new collector relationships and deepening existing ones.
  • Attending art fairs, collector dinners, and exhibitions to generate new business
  • Collaborating with the Acquisitions team in routine pricing sessions and artist market analysis
  • Hosting clients for viewings
  • Coordinating with other departments including (but not limited to) Acquisitions, Marketing, Research, Operations, and Web Production to help with sales strategies.

In the first few months, you will:

  • Get fully up to speed on Level & Co. sales criteria, process, and the Masterworks collection
  • Lead relationship management of a group of emerging collectors across the USA
  • Source private sales opportunities for existing works on the Masterworks platform by compiling client wish lists
  • Engage in regular client development meetings with the Private Sales team to build appropriate strategies around key clients and intermediaries

Requirements or Skill Sets:

  • 10+ years in a specialist role at a leading gallery or auction house or as an independent dealer
  • Expertise in Post-War and Contemporary Art at $1mm+ price points
  • Experience with negotiations and ability to multitask
  • Team player, proactive, highly organized, and attentive to detail
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Fluency in at least one other language is preferred
  • Ability to travel (local and international)

Additional Requirements:

  • Must be eligible for full-time US work - no exceptions.
  • Must be able to work from our NY office - not a remote role.

Benefits at Level & Co.:

  • Free admission to art museums and galleries
  • Health, dental, and vision coverage with FSA options
  • PTO and 401k
  • Discounted Equinox membership
