Senior Director, Reinsurance Data and Technology

Starr Insurance Companies is seeking a strategic, hands-on Senior Director to lead the global implementation and management of our new Sapiens Reinsurance platform. This is a senior leadership role responsible for driving a transformative global initiative to consolidate and modernize reinsurance operations and data across our Property & Casualty (P&C) businesses. The ideal candidate will bring deep expertise in reinsurance, proven experience with enterprise platform implementations, and a track record of building and leading high-performing technology teams.
Key Responsibilities:
Global Program Leadership & Team Building
- Lead the end-to-end implementation of the Sapiens Reinsurance platform, overseeing configuration, integration, and deployment across multiple regions.
- Build, mentor, and manage a global team of reinsurance data and business analysts, data engineers, and quality engineering (QE) professionals.
- Foster a collaborative, high-performance culture focused on excellence, innovation, and continuous improvement.
Reinsurance Operations & Expertise
- Serve as the subject matter expert in reinsurance technology, with a comprehensive understanding of end-to-end reinsurance operations—including Treaty, Facultative, and Excess of Loss arrangements.
- Ensure the platform supports and enhances all facets of reinsurance operations, including policy administration, claims, accounting, and reporting.
Technology Implementation & Integration
- Oversee the detailed configuration of the Sapiens platform to meet diverse user and business requirements.
- Design and implement interfaces and integrations to manage inbound and outbound data flows between the new platform and existing systems, ensuring seamless connectivity and data integrity.
- Lead the consolidation of legacy systems and processes into the new global platform, driving standardization and operational efficiency.
Data Strategy, Governance & Quality
- Define and execute a global reinsurance data strategy, ensuring high standards of data quality, governance, and stewardship.
- Drive initiatives to modernize existing data workflows and architecture for central processing of gross and ceded policy and claims data globally.
- Oversee complex data migrations, reconciliation, and validation activities between source and target systems, ensuring accuracy and compliance with regulatory and business requirements.
Stakeholder & Partner Management
- Build and maintain strong relationships with key internal stakeholders, including Reinsurance Operations, Reinsurance Accounting, Line of Business (LOB) leadership, Audit, Compliance, Finance, Actuarial, and other cross-functional teams.
- Collaborate with external vendors, consultants, and technology partners to ensure successful delivery and ongoing support.
Quality Assurance & Continuous Improvement
- Develop and implement comprehensive testing strategies, including user acceptance, regression, and performance testing.
- Conduct regular reviews and post-implementation assessments to ensure solutions meet business needs and industry standards.
- Promote a culture of continuous improvement, leveraging feedback and lessons learned to refine processes and outcomes.
Qualifications & Experience:
Education:
- Bachelor’s degree in Information Technology, Business Administration, or a related field; Master’s degree or relevant certifications (e.g., PMP, PRINCE2, Agile/Scrum) strongly preferred.
Experience:
- 8+ years of progressive experience in technology leadership and project management within the insurance or reinsurance sector.
- Proven track record managing global implementations of reinsurance technology platforms for P&C carriers; experience with Sapiens Reinsurance Master, SAP FS-RI and DXC Assure is considered a strong asset.
- Deep expertise in reinsurance operations, data management, and process optimization.
- Demonstrated success building and leading distributed, cross-functional teams.
- Strong background in system integration, data migration, ETL, and cloud-based solutions.
- Experience leading prior Reinsurance modernization initiatives and consolidating legacy systems and driving global transformation initiatives is highly preferred.
- Experience managing relationships with senior business leaders, finance, audit, compliance, and external vendors.
Skills:
- Advanced leadership, strategic planning, and execution skills.
- Hands-on technical expertise in reinsurance data, integrations, and analytics.
- Proficiency in SQL, Excel, ETL tools, and data warehousing technologies.
- Exceptional communication, stakeholder management, and interpersonal skills.
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making abilities.
- Experience with Agile/Scrum methodologies and project management software.
- Ability to influence, negotiate, and drive consensus across diverse stakeholder groups.
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience in the global property and casualty insurance industry.
- Knowledge of regulatory requirements, data privacy, and compliance standards in the insurance sector.
- Quick learner with the ability to thrive in a fast-paced, dynamic environment.

For individuals assigned and/or hired to work in New York, Starr Insurance Companies is required by law to include a reasonable estimate of the compensation range for this role. The wage range for this role takes into account the wide range of factors that are considered in making compensation decisions including but not limited to skill sets: experience and training: licensure and certifications: and other business and organizational needs. A reasonable estimate of the current range is $175,000-$200,000.
