Want to help everyday Americans invest and build wealth? Financial inequality is increasing, and too many people are getting left behind. At Stash, we’re passionate about democratizing wealth creation through education, advice, and products that help customers achieve greater financial freedom. We also believe in working smarter—leveraging AI and emerging technologies to move faster, operate more efficiently, and focus our time on solving meaningful problems for our customers.

We are looking for an exceptional Senior Director of Strategic Finance to help shape Stash's financial strategy and drive operational excellence as we execute on our mission. Reporting directly to the CFO, this leader will own the company's Financial Planning & Analysis function while partnering closely with leadership to drive strategic decision-making, resource allocation, and long-term value creation.

This role combines best-in-class FP&A leadership with selective Corporate Development responsibilities, making it ideal for a strategic finance leader who enjoys both operational rigor and evaluating transformational growth opportunities. You will lead an established team and serve as a trusted advisor to the CFO, translating complex financial and operational data into actionable business insights.

If you're passionate about building high-performing finance organizations, influencing executive decisions, and helping scale a mission-driven company, we'd love to hear from you.

This position operates on a hybrid schedule, requiring you to be on-site in our New York office at least three days per week to work with stakeholders and foster team collaboration.

What you'll do:

  • Lead Stash's Financial Planning & Analysis function, including annual planning, long-range planning, forecasting, management reporting, and performance management.
  • Partner directly with the CFO to develop financial strategy and support key business initiatives across the company.
  • Lead an established Strategic Finance team, developing talent while building scalable FP&A processes, reporting, and financial infrastructure.
  • Own company-wide budgeting and forecasting processes, ensuring alignment between strategic priorities, operating plans, and financial outcomes.
  • Develop and monitor key financial and operational performance indicators, delivering actionable insights that improve decision-making across the organization.
  • Partner with business leaders to evaluate investments, optimize resource allocation, and identify opportunities to improve operating performance and efficiency.
  • Prepare materials and analyses for the Board of Directors, executive leadership, and investors, including business reviews, financial updates, and strategic recommendations.
  • Lead complex financial modeling, scenario planning, and sensitivity analyses to support critical strategic decisions.
  • Partner with Accounting and Data Science to continuously improve financial reporting, planning systems, and data quality.
  • Support Corporate Development initiatives, including evaluating strategic partnerships, investments, acquisitions, and other growth opportunities through financial analysis, valuation, and due diligence.
  • Help shape Stash's long-term financial strategy, capital allocation framework, and overall operating cadence.

What we're looking for:

  • 12+ years of progressive experience in strategic finance, FP&A, investment banking, private equity, corporate development, or corporate finance.
  • Experience leading high-performing FP&A organizations, preferably within a high-growth technology or fintech company.
  • Proven ability to partner with executive leadership and influence strategic decisions through data-driven insights.
  • Strong financial modeling, forecasting, valuation, and business analysis capabilities.
  • Deep understanding of financial statements, accounting principles, budgeting, forecasting, and operating metrics.
  • Strong familiarity with subscription business metrics (ARR, CAC payback, LTV:CAC, cohort retention, unit economic analysis) and experience partnering with Product and Growth teams to translate that analysis into pricing, packaging, and retention strategy.
  • Experience evaluating strategic investments, M&A, or other corporate development opportunities is strongly preferred.
  • Demonstrated success building and leading teams while developing future finance leaders.
  • Highly analytical with exceptional attention to detail and a bias toward action.
  • Excellent communication and executive presentation skills, with the ability to distill complex analyses into clear recommendations.
  • Advanced Excel and financial modeling skills; experience with planning systems and BI tools is preferred. Familiarity with SQL or large-scale data analysis is a plus, with ability to independently pull and structure data.
  • A track record of using AI tools, both general-purpose (Claude, Cursor, ChatGPT, or similar) and/or embedded in ERP/FP&A platforms, to redesign finance processes, not just speed up existing ones, with a bias toward automating manual reporting and freeing the team for higher-value analysis.
  • Comfortable operating in a fast-paced, high-growth environment with evolving priorities.

Gold Stars:

  • Fintech and/or consumer subscription experience with deep understanding of regulated consumer financial products.
  • Proven leadership of enterprise FP&A, strategic finance, and long-range planning in high-growth, data-driven organizations.
  • Expertise in financial modeling, scenario planning, KPI development, and executive dashboards using tools such as NetSuite, Looker, Tableau, or similar BI and planning platforms.
  • Direct experience supporting investor relations or earnings-related deliverables (eg, earnings materials, guidance-setting, analyst Q&A prep, etc.) and ideally with exposure to subsidiary or segment-level reporting into a public parent company's consolidated results.
