Summary

The Brooklyn Navy Yard Development Corporation (BNYDC) is the not-for-profit corporation that serves as the real estate developer and property manager of the Brooklyn Navy Yard on behalf of its owner, The City of New York (the City). The Yard is a nationally recognized urban manufacturing hub that drives inclusive economic opportunity by supporting the growth of small and midsized businesses across diverse industries- from food and beverage production to advanced manufacturing, design and climate technology. Through this ecosystem, BNYDC creates high-quality jobs and career pathways for local residents.


The Senior Director will lead job placement, training, and community engagement functions to ensure Yard businesses have access to qualified, diverse talent pipelines, and jobseekers benefit from meaningful pathways into growing industries. They will develop and implement program strategies, manage a cross-functional team, and oversee day-to-day operations in close collaboration with internal departments and external partners. 


Areas of Responsibility


Strategy & Leadership

•       Lead the Hiring and Training team by implementing program strategies with the aim of achieving annual goals for candidate sourcing, hiring, employer engagement, community outreach, and partnerships

•       Advise and support the SVP in defining team goals, addressing challenges, and identifying opportunities to advance workforce development priorities

•       Synthesize Yard-wide employer and related industry trends to inform decisions related to talent needs, sourcing pipelines, hiring, and training opportunities

•       Collaborate with BNYDC departments and external partners to advance workforce development objectives and amplify program impact

•       Supervise, coach, and develop Employment Center staff, ensuring high-quality program and service delivery


Employment Center Operations, Community Engagement, and Data

•       Leading candidate sourcing and placement for entry-level to mid-level roles in manufacturing, production, engineering, and the skilled trades

•       Implement strategies to promote the increased use of hiring services and engagement with workforce programs by Yard employers and external stakeholders/organizations

•       Oversee Employment Center operations, including on-site programming and events, ensuring consistent, quality experiences for Yard employers and job seekers 

•       Cultivate mutually beneficial partnerships with aligned CBOs, colleges, agencies, and industry associations to sustain talent pipelines

•       Monitor KPIs and operational benchmarks for hiring, training, and outreach, identifying opportunities and solutions to drive improvements

•       Oversee Workforce Development data operations and support the Data Analyst to design AirTable dashboards and ensure timely reporting


Training & Talent Pathways

•       Manage a portfolio of workforce training programs (e.g. CNC Operator, Mastercam), including class logistics, participant recruitment and selection, instructor contracting, and financials

•       With the Senior Director of Grants, support funder relationships, outcomes tracking, grant reporting, and general grant compliance

•       Identify and launch new programs, managing project plans, timelines, and staffing

 

Required Skills and Abilities

•       Proactive and results-oriented with a demonstrated track record of designing, implementing and scaling employer engagement, job placement, and/or training operations

•       Sector knowledge in one or more priority areas: advanced manufacturing, engineering, design, technology, climate/sustainability, and/or startup ecosystems

•       Exceptional people leader with high emotional intelligence, ability to coach, motivate, and support teams to meet ambitious goals and deliver high-quality work

•       Organization and project management: experience developing and managing project plans, multiple workstream priorities, and ability to consistently meet deadlines

•       Analytical problem solver: experience utilizing program/organizational data to identify trends, inform decisions, and improve operations

•       Excellent, professional written and verbal communication skills, including public speaking. Capable of engaging a diverse range of audiences and stakeholders.

•       High proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, and PowerPoint required)

•       Experience with Airtable strongly preferred

•       Experience with Calendly, Canva, and Mailchimp preferred

Qualifications

•       Bachelor’s degree required; Master’s degree preferred 

•       8+ years of progressive leadership experience in workforce development, continuing education, hiring and training operations, human resources, or a related field

•       4+ years of team management experience; preference for candidates who have led teams of 4 or more  

 

  • Must be able to work some evenings & weekends as required for events, job fairs, etc. (advance notice will be provided)
