About the role
The Athletic is seeking a Senior Editor for its NFL desk. This is a senior role in a fast-paced environment involved in strategic planning and coordination of NFL video, identifying of stories that will benefit from video, and brainstorming for new ideas.
This role is 100% remote for candidates currently residing in the United States or Canada.
Responsibilities
- Attend NFL editorial meetings and video meetings to be informed of what is coming and suggest new ideas.
- Coordinate video assignments with writers, editors and video producers.
- Add video assets to stories and the feed.
- Plan for tentpole events on the NFL calendar.
- Work to bring a distinctive, compelling, and authentic voice to all digital media products.
- Maintain an understanding and proficiency of subscription and engagement metrics.
- Maintain proficiency and knowledge of SEO (best practices available).
- Contribute to oversight of staffing assignments, editorial resources and process.
- Maintain an updated and accurate forward-looking editorial budget.
- Collaborate with staff on story ideas.
- Edit and publish stories via WordPress.
Requirements
- 4+ years of professional experience in sports journalism, including video and breaking news experience.
- High-end knowledge of the NFL.
- Ability to work nights, weekends and holidays.
The annual base salary range for this role is $80,000.00 - $90,000.00 USD. The total compensation offered for this position may vary based on factors such as education, experience, skills, and location. It may also include non-cash rewards and benefits. The base salary range is subject to change and may be modified in the future.
