Stord is The Consumer Experience Company, powering seamless checkout through delivery for today's leading brands. Stord is rapidly growing and is on track to double our revenue in the next 18 months. To meet and exceed this target, Stord is strategically scaling teams across the entire company, and seeking energetic experts to help us achieve our mission.

By combining comprehensive commerce-enablement technology with high-volume fulfillment services, Stord provides brands a platform to compete with retail giants. Stord manages over $10 billion of commerce annually through its fulfillment, warehousing, transportation, and operator-built software suite including OMS, Pre- and Post-Purchase, and WMS platforms. Stord is leveling the playing field for all brands to deliver the best consumer experience at scale.

With Stord, brands can increase cart conversion, improve unit economics, and drive sustained customer loyalty. Stord’s end-to-end commerce solutions combine best-in-class omnichannel fulfillment and shipping with leading technology to ensure fast shipping, reliable delivery promises, easy access to more channels, and improved margins on every order.

Hundreds of leading DTC and B2B companies like AG1, True Classic, Native, Seed Health, quip, goodr, Sundays for Dogs, and more trust Stord to deliver industry-leading consumer experiences on every order. Stord is headquartered in Atlanta with facilities across the United States, Canada, and Europe. Stord is backed by top-tier investors including Kleiner Perkins, Franklin Templeton, Founders Fund, Strike Capital, Baillie Gifford, and Salesforce Ventures.

The Senior Engineer, Platform Services will own and drive the technical vision for these shared services. This is not a traditional infrastructure or DevOps role. You will build and maintain product-grade services that our product engineering teams consume, enabling Stord’s long-term goal of product unification through a composable marketplace of capabilities.
You will work alongside our Principal Engineering Group, who will provide architectural direction and roadmap prioritization. Your job is to translate that direction into working software, establish ownership patterns for shared services, and ensure product teams can integrate with your services reliably and with minimal friction.
We are looking for engineers who are smart, adaptable, and comfortable with adversity. The shared services space at Stord involves ambiguity—services that need ownership, technical direction that needs to be established, and integration patterns that need to be defined. If you thrive when given a hard problem and the autonomy to solve it, and you learn new technologies quickly when the situation demands it, this role is built for you.
We care more about your engineering fundamentals, problem-solving ability, and ownership mentality than checking every box on a technology list.

What You’ll OwnShared Service Ownership
  • Own the design, development, and operational health of shared services including authentication/authorization, eventing/messaging, API gateways, and shared libraries

  • Establish clear service contracts, SLOs, and integration patterns that product teams can rely on

  • Drive these services from their current state of distributed, informal ownership to well-defined, productized capabilities

  • Maintain and improve service documentation, onboarding guides, and self-service tooling for consuming teams

Technical Execution
  • Translate architectural direction from the Principal Engineering Group into production-quality implementations

  • Build reference implementations that demonstrate how product teams should integrate with shared services

  • Identify and resolve technical debt in shared services that slows product team velocity

  • Contribute to Technical Design Documents and participate in architectural reviews

  • Write clean, well-tested, production-ready code—this is a hands-on building role

Product Unification
  • Contribute to the technical strategy for unifying Stord’s product suite into a composable marketplace of services

  • Identify opportunities to extract common capabilities from product-specific implementations into shared services

  • Ensure shared services support multi-product integration scenarios cleanly, particularly as acquired products are consolidated

Cross-Team Enablement
  • Act as the go-to technical resource for product teams integrating with platform services

  • Proactively identify friction points in how product teams consume shared services and drive improvements

  • Collaborate with SRE on infrastructure concerns that affect shared service reliability

  • Contribute to developer experience initiatives where they intersect with platform service adoption

How You’ll Work
  • Report to the Head of Engineering in the near term, with a dedicated Engineering Manager expected as the team grows

  • Receive architectural direction and roadmap prioritization from the Head Principal Engineer, who acts as technical product manager for the platform team

  • Coordinate with the Principal Engineering Group on patterns, standards, and cross-cutting technical decisions

  • Operate with significant autonomy on implementation decisions within the architectural guardrails set by the Principal Group

  • Participate in recurring architectural reviews and Technical Design Document reviews

What We’re Looking ForRequired
  • 5+ years of professional software engineering experience building production systems

  • Strong proficiency in at least one of: Elixir or TypeScript. Willingness and demonstrated ability to learn the other quickly

  • Experience designing, building, and operating shared services or platform capabilities consumed by other engineering teams

  • Track record of taking ownership of ambiguously-scoped technical problems and driving them to resolution

  • Comfort working across multiple codebases and navigating unfamiliar systems

  • Strong fundamentals in distributed systems: service contracts, event-driven architectures, API design, and failure modes

  • Clear technical communication—ability to write effective design documents and explain trade-offs to varied audience

Bonus
  • Experience with authentication/authorization systems (OAuth, OIDC, RBAC/ABAC patterns)

  • Experience with event-driven architectures and messaging systems at scale

  • Familiarity with GCP services or Terraform (our SRE team owns this layer, but exposure helps)

  • Experience in logistics, supply chain, or commerce domains

  • History of working in high-growth environments with rapid organizational scaling

  • Experience with M&A integration—consolidating acquired systems into a unified platform
