Linktree is looking for a Senior Legal Counsel (AI & Technology) who operates like a product partner, not a gatekeeper. This role sits at the center of our AI strategy, working side-by-side with Product and Engineering to shape, build, and ship AI-powered features.
You will not be a traditional reviewer of risk. You will be embedded in the product lifecycle, helping teams move faster by translating legal complexity into practical, buildable solutions.
This role is ideal for a lawyer who thinks like an engineer: systems-oriented, comfortable with ambiguity, and energized by solving novel problems at the intersection of AI, data, and product.
As a member of the Legal team, you will act as a strategic operator, enabling the business to take smart risks and build responsibly at speed.
- Act as a day-to-day product partner to AI, Data, and Engineering teams, contributing directly to product design and decision-making
- Translate legal and regulatory requirements into clear product and engineering constraints that can be implemented in real systems
- Build and operationalize AI governance frameworks that enable rapid experimentation while managing risk (not slowing it down)
- Lead compliance readiness for emerging AI regulations (including the EU AI Act) in a way that is practical, scalable, and product-aligned
- Advise on AI system design decisions including model usage, training data, outputs, and user-facing functionality
- Own legal strategy for AI-related IP, including generated content, training data, and third-party model integrations
- Partner with Engineering and Data to implement privacy-by-design and safety-by-design patterns
- Draft and negotiate technology, data, and vendor agreements, with a strong bias toward enabling product velocity
- Continuously monitor the AI regulatory landscape and translate developments into actionable product guidance, not theoretical summaries
- Build lightweight, usable legal processes that integrate into existing product workflows (PRDs, launch reviews, experimentation cycles)
- Strong business operator who happens to be a lawyer. You prioritize outcomes over theory
- 7–10 years Post Qualification Experience with meaningful in-house or product counseling experience in a tech environment
- Deep, applied experience with AI, data, and privacy law. You have worked on real products, not just advisory memos
- Comfortable operating at a technical depth with Product and Engineering teams. You can engage in discussions about how systems actually work
- Demonstrated ability to convert complex legal requirements into simple, executable guidance
- High ownership and autonomy. You make decisions and move work forward without waiting for perfect information
- Experience working in fast-paced environments where speed and judgment both matter
- Strong influencing skills. You drive outcomes without relying on authority
- Bias toward building systems and frameworks rather than one-off answers
- Based in US (LA or SF) or Australia, hybrid
Linktree is committed to providing a fair and competitive compensation package including cash, equity, and benefits. The base salary offered for this role is targeted at $245,000 - $255,000 for roles based in San Francisco and Los Angeles. Final offers depend on multiple factors including location, experience, expertise, and role scope, and may vary from the range listed.
P.S. If you don’t tick every box in this listing, please don’t rule yourself out. We take pride in inclusion and hiring incredible human beings with great potential over ticking boxes – so if this role resonates with you, hit that apply button!
