Senior Accounting Manager
Our client, a large not-for-profit organization, is seeking a dedicated Senior Accounting Manager. The organization’s mission is to educate the public and policy makers regarding matters related to public safety and crime reduction. The services provided to this organization are part of our philanthropic offering to Family Office clients. The Senior Accounting Manager will be a dedicated resource to this client, engaging in day-to-day financial matters. Reporting to the CFO and being responsible for managing a team of 7-8 team members, the successful candidate will function as an individual contributor and will liaise with the existing finance team, providing leadership and direction for financial policy and overall management of financial operations.
Your Impact:
- Working with the CFO to ensure that the day-to-day financial operations are running smoothly, including financial reporting and control and cash flow management, ensuring that financial reports are accurate and completed in a timely manner
- Working with the CFO to provide monthly financial reports and guidance to managers responsible for the implementation of budget and their programs; oversee monthly reporting efforts; anticipate critical questions in advance, provide recommendations to the CFO on large expenditures
- Leading the team on preparation of/review monthly close documentation including prepare and analyze monthly income statements, balance sheets, and cash flow statements
- Recording/reviewing journal entries for payroll, investments, intercompany transactions, depreciation, accruals, prepaids, asset purchases and other complex transactions
- Reviewing weekly cash account balance updates and ensure all client accounts are sufficiently funded
- Preparing/reviewing financial reports on a monthly basis
- Overseeing ongoing maintenance of new budgeting software and interface with internal data team to make necessary updates and/or adjustments
- Preparing/reviewing ad-hoc financial analysis summary reports as needed
- Communicating and coordinating with clients, as well as vendors, donors, bankers, as appropriate
- Assisting in development of process innovations to streamline the work and/or add new forms of value to cash management function
- Preparing/reviewing annual financial audit workpapers, financial statements, and footnotes on annual basis, correspond with auditors and instruct staff accountants, as needed
- Preparing/reviewing/compiling tax schedules for 990 and other tax forms on annual basis; Corresponding with the Tax preparers as needed
- Managing Grant reporting requirements and track restricted assets for 501c3 and 501c4 nonprofit organizations
- Providing onsite support at client location to support & facilitate financial & operational efficiencies and improvements as needed
- Preparing/reviewing various charitable renewals, compliance reports and coordinating with the stakeholders on filings
- Assist with annual budget process and review of accuracy of information in budget tracking tool
- Assist in operations, including insurance renewals and administration of software and platforms
- Provide ongoing trainings to the team and develop more efficient and effective processes
What you’ll offer:
- BA or equivalent in Accounting
- 10-15 years accounting experience working with a variety of not-for-profit clients.
- Strong proficiency in Microsoft Office skills (Excel, Word, PowerPoint)
- Meticulous attention to detail (thorough and accurate) and highly organized
- Team player with ability to deal in a dynamic environment
- Strong organizational and multi-tasking skills with the ability to plan and prioritize within a multi-client environment
- Ensure efficient and timely deliverables; adapt quickly to an intense and changing environment
- Experience in financial management within a not-for-profit organization
- At least 5-7 years of experience in supervising and managing a team of at least 5 people
- A dedicated leader/manager, collaborative and team-oriented, who is self-motivated, can take charge, build consensus, and affect change; must impart credibility, trust, enthusiasm, integrity, and ethics; relate well to individuals at all levels and adapt to a high energy, intense environment; build and preserve relationships, even under difficult or chaotic circumstances.

- Experience collaborating with diverse groups of stakeholders including effective, articulate, and persuasive communications, verbally and in writing, that can speak finance and operations in simple and accurate terms
- Exceptional problem solving, interpersonal and strategic thinking capabilities; able to work in an ambiguous reporting structure
- Analytical and strategic, yet tactical, with an understanding of the business implications of plans and strategies; able to creatively design and implement systems and procedures that fit the organization’s current and long-term needs
We’d love to see:
- CPA or other professional designations
- Not for Profit accounting and audit experience
- Experience with Section 527 political organizations
- Sage Intacct, Concur, QuickBase, Martus experience
- Tax preparation experience

The base salary range for this position is:
Base pay offered may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. The total compensation package includes medical, dental, vision, financial, and other benefits as well as the potential for an annual bonus consideration.
