Job Description:

SENIOR MANAGER - DATA & TECH

Role Overview

The Senior Manager, Data & Tech is a senior technical leader responsible for owning complex reporting platforms and data engineering initiatives end-to-end. This role partners closely with account, product, and engineering stakeholders to design scalable, reliable solutions and set technical direction across multiple workstreams.

The role is highly hands-on and ownership-driven, requiring strong architectural judgment and the ability to lead through influence rather than formal authority. While the position does not currently center on managing associates, it plays a critical leadership role in shaping platform strategy, execution standards, and cross-team alignment. Scope may evolve over time as organizational needs change.

This position requires comfort operating in ambiguity and balancing near-term delivery with longer-term platform strategy, data quality, and maintainability.

Responsibilities

  • Own the technical direction and execution of complex reporting platforms and data pipelines across multiple accounts or workstreams
  • Serve as the technical owner for data architecture, transformation logic, and analytics enablement
  • Partner with account and client-facing teams to translate evolving business requirements into scalable, durable technical solutions
  • Act as a senior technical escalation point, providing guidance on architecture, data modeling, automation patterns, and performance optimization
  • Lead planning and prioritization across concurrent initiatives, balancing delivery timelines, technical debt, and data quality standards
  • Establish, document, and enforce best practices for data quality, validation, monitoring, and operational reliability
  • Evaluate and drive improvements in tooling, processes, and overall platform architecture
  • Provide clear technical structure, expectations, and accountability across distributed and cross-functional contributors
  • Ensure roles, responsibilities, and ownership are well-defined across projects
  • Communicate complex technical concepts clearly to non-technical stakeholders to drive alignment and informed decision-making

Requirements

  • 6+ years of experience in analytics, business intelligence, data engineering, or related roles
  • Demonstrated experience owning and evolving data pipeline and analytics architectures (ETL/ELT, platforms, semantic layers)
  • Hands-on experience with modern data platforms such as Databricks and/or Microsoft Fabric
  • Strong technical foundation in data modeling, transformation logic, automation, and performance
  • Proven ability to lead technical initiatives through ambiguity, from problem definition through making sound tradeoffs between speed, data quality, and long-term maintainability
  • Strong organizational and prioritization skills, with the ability to manage shifting priorities multiple stakeholders, accounts, and concurrent initiatives
  • High comfort level coordinating work across remote and cross-functional contributors
  • Exceptional attention to data quality, consistency, and reliability
  • Track record of continuous self-development and independent learning

Nice to Have

  • Advanced Power Query / M experience
  • Strong experience with Power BI and semantic model design
  • Experience with visual data preparation tools such as Alteryx or Trifacta
  • Experience operating in or designing lakehouse-style architectures
  • Familiarity with medallion architecture concepts and modern analytics engineering patterns
  • Media or advertising technology experience

What we are looking for

This role is a senior, hands-on technical leader who has personally owned complex data and analytics platforms end-to-end. The ideal candidate has operated as the technical decision-maker in ambiguous environments, not just executed predefined work.

Strong candidates typically demonstrate:

  • End-to-end ownership of data platforms or reporting ecosystems (architecture, modeling, transformations, delivery, and reliability)
  • Hands-on experience designing and evolving data pipelines and analytics layers, not just managing teams that do
  • Comfort making architectural and delivery tradeoffs between speed, data quality, and long-term maintainability
  • Experience working across multiple stakeholders, accounts, or business teams simultaneously
  • Ability to lead through influence, set technical direction, and create clarity without relying on formal authority
  • Clear communication of technical concepts to non-technical audiences
