Girls Who Code is seeking a strategic and creative Senior Manager, New Media and Communications to lead executive communications, expand our new media footprint, and elevate our brand through powerful storytelling and partnerships. This is a high-impact role at the intersection of modern media, brand partnerships, and strategic messaging.
This individual will serve as the lead writer behind executive panel briefs and keynote scripts, be responsible for scouting and securing new media and brand partnership opportunities, and shape our organization’s voice across internal and external communications.
Responsibilities
- Brand Communications & Messaging
- Support the VP of Marketing and Communications in creating and executing communications plans for key organizational moments and announcements, including program launches, campaigns, and new initiatives.
- Lead cross-functional communications projects for initiatives led by our Programs, Development, and Research teams.
- Ensure consistent brand voice across external communications by creating compelling, mission-driven narratives for organizational announcements, programs, and initiatives.
- Collaborate with the Director of Marketing on copywriting needs for our influencer marketing program, ad program, and other marketing initiatives.
- Support the VP of Marketing and Communications in setting the strategic direction of our content marketing plan, and managing our blog copywriter.
- Support crisis communications strategy and execution, including drafting holding statements, rapid-response messaging, and advising leadership during sensitive moments.
- New Media & Partnership Outreach
- Scout and pursue visibility opportunities across emerging media (e.g., podcasts, editorial newsletters, thought leadership platforms, creator partnerships) and press for the organization, and its CEO and leadership.
- Collaborate with the VP of Marketing and Communications on identifying and securing brand partnerships, and partnerships with public figures and influencers that align with Girls Who Code’s brand.
- Build and maintain relationships with podcast hosts, journalists, influencers, and media partners.
- Evaluate and recommend high-impact outreach opportunities aligned with our strategic goals.
- CEO & Executive Communications
- Develop panel briefs, talking points, and keynotes for executive and CEO appearances.
- Prepare organizational spokespeople for all external engagements, including media opportunities and speaking engagements.
- Provide copywriting and editing support for the CEO’s and organization’s social media posts across various marketing channels.
- Scout and secure participation in high-impact conferences and awards for the organization’s CEO and executive leadership.
Qualifications
- 5+ years of experience in communications, and new media relations or partnerships.
- Proven track record writing for executives — including keynotes, op-eds, and briefings.
- Demonstrated success in securing earned media or branded content placements.
- Strong understanding of emerging media channels, including podcasts, editorial newsletters, and influencer platforms.
- Excellent writing, editing, and storytelling skills across various tones and formats.
- Savvy digital native who can navigate the latest social platforms and comms tools.
- Ability to work on multiple projects simultaneously, set priorities, and meet deadlines.
- Ability to work independently with a high degree of initiative, organization, and attention to detail.
- Strong relationship-building and management skills with internal and external stakeholders.
