The Opportunity

Leveraging Netflix’s collaborative, innovative, and fast-paced culture, this position will help enhance Netflix’s ability to achieve its goals by creating and maximizing strategic partnerships and investments that help address technology and market barriers and drive the deployment of cleantech at scale across the business and the entertainment industry – including but not limited to electric vehicles and charging equipment, battery storage technology, clean fuels, and related infrastructure.

Responsibilities

Reporting to the Global Director for Standards & Partnerships in Netflix Sustainability, this role requires  a senior subject matter expert working closely with other senior leaders across the business to improve and align sustainability regulatory, technology, and market environments with the company’s objectives. Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

1. Strategy & Market Development

  • Oversee the development and implementation of strategies that support the enablement of cleantech deployment and adoption at scale, defining interim objectives, core metrics of success, insight collection, and trend analysis.

  • Conduct and commission research and analysis to understand barriers and opportunities to cleantech availability – e.g., market gap assessments and surveys related to technology supply, price, and vendor ecosystem.

  • Design or engage in initiatives that stimulate tech supply and innovation – e.g., technology incubators and buyer clubs.

  • Assess and advance multiple complementary financial investment approaches.

  • Design or engage in initiatives that accelerate industry-relevant adoption of cleantech - e.g., gap assessments, incentives, standards, certifications, upskilling and workforce development programs.

2. Standards & Partnerships

  • Identify and leverage public programs and cross-industry initiatives to scale investment in and adoption of cleantech relevant for the industry.

  • Develop, shape, and leverage internal and external third-party standards, certification programs, and complementary financial incentive programs that can drive market transformation and adoption around key markets.

  • Develop strategic partnerships and collaborations, including with government bodies, NGOs, industry suppliers, business and industry peers, and scientific and technology communities.

  • Represent Netflix in industry, business, and NGO collaborative groups, coalitions, associations, and events, especially on highly technical topics.

  • Monitor and action on new and emerging issues, policy and otherwise, that can influence the success of cleantech in the screen industry.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Advanced Degree in Environmental Science, Engineering, Public Policy, Economics, Management or equivalent

  • 15+ years of experience in sustainability technology, policy, or implementation, with a preference for significant time in the private sector.

  • Extensive experience developing and leading business-relevant strategies that can accelerate sustainability and cleantech objectives.

  • Strong project and team management skills, including cross-functional partners.

  • Demonstrated experience researching and shaping external market dynamics that can accelerate cleantech availability and adoption.

  • Experience designing and leveraging incentives and standards, internal and external, that support demand aggregation, market signaling, and industry adoption.

  • Demonstrated success developing and maintaining successful internal and external partnerships and multi-group collaborations, including with industry groups, research groups, government bodies, manufacturers/suppliers, third-party organizations, or a combination of these.

  • Extensive technical knowledge across cleantech and other sustainability topics, to include technologies, financial approaches, regulations, government programs, NGO efforts, and industry collaborations.

  • Extensive experience and confidence in building rapport and communicating with very senior leadership executives, various internal teams, and external stakeholders.

  • Thoughtful and structured research approach that allows for quick analysis, concise written and verbal summaries, and actionable recommendations, including rapid-response.

  • Ability to structure and have ownership over one’s own work and time.

  • Humility with one's own knowledge gaps and seeking out expertise rather than recreating it.

  • Comfort with uncertainty and flexibility in order to experiment, fail fast, apply lessons learned, pivot strategy, and press on.
