The Senior Mechanical Engineer leads complex projects, mentors junior staff, prepares designs, and works with project managers to ensure compliance with building codes and design standards.
Handles projects from start to finish 100% with little to no oversight. Senior Engineers tackle our most complex projects. Provides oversight, mentorship, guidance and training to others.
Job Summary
- Lead complex projects / solve complex technical issues on projects
- Asses the requirements of a project, break a project into tasks, and work with a Project Manager to determine the scope of work, budget, and staffing
- Write scope of work for mechanical design based on preliminary review and meetings with the client
- Prepare engineering studies and schematic design for new systems
- Analyze operation of HVAC existing systems
- Based on knowledge of applicable building codes, work with code officials and other design professionals when an interpretation or exception to building codes is required
- Assign and review work of project design team
- Check progress of work and alert Project Manager to change of scope or additional services
- Review contractor application for payments
- Coordinate all aspects of project document completion within company and externally with clients and other design professionals
- Prepare or review construction budgets based on experience and scope of project
- Supervise staff on multiple projects, provide assertive management, technical leadership and support to team members, verify that all work is completed as planned and scheduled in compliance with client, and company quality assurance practices
- Mentor younger staff
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering
- 10+ years of Mechanical/HVAC design experience in the MEP consulting industry
- Proficiency in the latest version of AutoCAD, Revit, design, and calculation software
- PE preferred
- Strong technical knowledge
- Ability to work on several concurrent projects
- Expert knowledge of local design and building codes
- Excellent communication skills. Ability to effectively interface and become a Trusted Advisor with clients
- Thorough understanding of construction process
