The Opportunity:

CACI is looking for talented Senior Paralegal professionals to support the Department of Justice’s mission.  Positions like this are critical and are very involved with high-profile important cases. CACI is looking for people who can work in Brooklyn, New York. Paralegal duties focus upon litigation support as we prepare for trial in the coming months. The assignments evolve and we would like to be able to add complex responsibilities for a capable candidate.

Responsibilities:

  • Works under the direction of a Supervisory Paralegal or a Project Supervisor.
  • Work products are reviewed prior to submission; however, often develops these products with minimal direct supervision other than written guidelines.
  • Compiles, prepares, and summarizes relevant materials for use by attorneys in discovery and in preparation of motions, briefs and other legal documents; summarizes depositions and other transcripts; maintains case files; performs moderately complex legal research; synopsizes transcripts of hearings and oral arguments for attorney use; reviews case related materials and, for example, identifies potentially conflicting statements or areas requiring further investigation; writes preliminary drafts of legal memoranda and correspondence; indexes, tracks and controls document discovery (including documents produced and received in discovery); indexes and tracks exhibits and other materials at depositions and at trial.
  • Prepares exhibit cross-references.
  • Assists attorneys in courtroom.
  • Reviews documents for relevance and privilege according to established guidelines and criteria.
  • Other examples of the types of work to be performed include compilation of documents for FOIA, production requests, Congressional inquiries, etc.
  • Provide support to the Victim Witness Unit of the U.S. Attorney’s Office – Eastern District of New York in Brooklyn. 
  • Respond to victim inquiries via phone, email, letters, and fax; providing initial screening of victim concerns and determining eligibility for victim-witness services. 
  • Provide information to victims on schedule changes, case status, results of trial, opportunities to address court, and post-sentencing notifications. 
  • Assist with victim travel arrangements and resource coordination. 
  • Assist other VWU staff or support staff with logistics of court events, dealing with concerns or problems of employers and creditors, preparing witnesses to testify by explaining general processes, procedures, and resources. 
  • May also assist in providing updates and restitution to AUSAs or forwarding Victim Impact Statements to US Probation. 
  • Input victim data into applicable databases and produce notification documents using the automated victim notification system. Also update contact information in the applicable databases and system to ensure it is correct for notifications and post-sentencing needs. 
  • Coordinate with AUSAs and support staff to obtain most up-to-date information regarding case status and events. Supports other VWU staff in providing AUSAs with information on victim attendance at court events or arrange time for consultation with AUSA upon request by victim. 
  • Support VWU staff with processing a variety of written documents and materials utilizing a range of office software and hardware. 

Qualifications: 

Required:

  • Requires paralegal certificate, or JD, or currently attending an ABA-accredited law school, having completed at least one year of study or an equivalent level of legal training or experience; or an equivalent level of education may be substituted.
  • At least two years of litigation paralegal experience required; trial experience very helpful. 
  • At least one year of experience in automated litigation support. Requires sound working knowledge of federal and state court system, legal research procedures, and legal research resources. 
  • Requires excellent written and oral communication skills and thorough knowledge of legal research tools such as LEXIS and Westlaw. Must have hands-on familiarity with a variety of computer applications, including word processing, databases (such as document review and file management systems), spreadsheets, imaging, and hardware systems. 
  • Role also requires hands-on familiarity with ESI tools and knowledge of eDiscovery procedures and resources. 
  • Ability to consistently deliver highest quality work under extreme pressure will be very important.
  • Professional, can-do, customer-service attitude.
  • DOJ MBI must be obtainable (US Citizenship required).

Pay Range:

This posting is for a position covered by the Service Contract Labor Standards (SCA). The pay and benefits provided for this position will meet or exceed the minimum required amounts detailed in the wage determination issued by the Department of Labor and made applicable to this position, as incorporated into CACI’s government contract for the work location.​
 

Minimum Required Hourly Wage:

$31.45
