Own and evolve the platform-as-product used by engineering teams: improve reliability and observability, build test infrastructure and CI/CD tooling, optimize infrastructure cost and strategy, maintain infrastructure-side compliance (SOC 2/HIPAA), and serve as first-response for platform on-call incidents.

About Nirvana

At Nirvana, we're revolutionizing how benefit verification is handled. Healthcare coverage is often complex and opaque, we're bringing transparency to what's covered and how much care actually costs. By leveraging machine learning and AI, we've built tools that allow care providers across specialties to seamlessly check coverage, from patient intake through ongoing care, saving valuable time and resources.

Our mission goes beyond simplifying access to care, we aim to remove the financial anxiety that patients and providers face every day. Backed by leading investors including Inspired Capital, Eniac Ventures, and Surface Ventures, Nirvana is on a rapid growth trajectory. Over the past year, we've partnered with major clients such as Lifestance Health, Modern Health, and Headspace, helping them deliver faster, more transparent healthcare experiences.

Join us as we become the trust layer in healthcare, making it more transparent and accessible for everyone.

About the role

We're hiring a Senior Platform Engineer to own and evolve the foundation our product engineering teams build on. This is a platform-as-a-product role: your "customers" are the engineers shipping our product, and your job is to make them faster, safer, and more confident in production. Every decision should make those teams more effective, reliability, cycle time, MTTR, and defect rate are how we know it's working.

You'll report to the Director of Engineering and work daily with the engineering tech leads. You'll inherit a working stack, managed AWS, Terraform, GitHub Actions, Datadog, multi-account EKS , and a real set of strategic questions: how do we level up our reliability and observability practice, what does test infrastructure look like in an agentic-AI-tooling era, how do we keep platform costs sane, and how do we make production safer across teams with different testing cultures.

This is a senior role with real scope. We need someone who treats the platform as a product, builds opinions about where it should go, and owns the roadmap to get there.

What you'll own
  • Platform reliability and observability. Define and improve SLOs, error budgets, and the observability practice. Make production legible to the engineers running it.

  • Test infrastructure as a platform service. Own the harnesses, environments, CI gates, and tooling teams use to ship safely — including evaluation and integration of emerging agentic test tooling.

  • Developer experience across infrastructure. Reduce friction on all things infra — environments, deployments, debugging, day-to-day tooling. Where our managed vendor handles implementation, you own the shape of the experience.

  • Infrastructure strategy and cost. Own platform spend across the stack. Partner with our managed infrastructure vendor as a force multiplier and drive ongoing platform migrations to completion.

  • Compliance posture on the infrastructure side. Maintain and evolve our SOC 2 and HIPAA controls as they apply to platform — logging, access, encryption, PHI handling patterns. Contributor, not program owner.

  • Platform on-call. First-response on platform and infrastructure issues, escalated from the product teams. Named escalation paths to the Director of Engineering and the part-time DevOps tech lead.

What we're looking for
  • 6+ years of platform, SRE, infrastructure, or DevOps engineering experience, with 2+ at a senior level.

  • Deep AWS experience. Production EKS. Terraform as a daily tool. Multi-account architectures.

  • Real observability chops — you've built or seriously evolved an observability stack and have opinions beyond "more dashboards." Datadog preferred; Grafana stack or OpenTelemetry experience is a plus.

  • Strong CI/CD instincts. GitHub Actions preferred.

  • You think about test infrastructure as a first-class platform concern. Experience with test environment management, harness design, or modern AI-assisted testing tools is a strong signal.

  • Comfort reading Python and TypeScript/Next.js and contributing to the tooling around them.

  • Experience in regulated environments (HIPAA, SOC 2, PCI) and instincts for PHI handling. Strong signal, not required.

  • You write opinions down. You disagree well. You'd rather be told the real situation than a polished one.
