Senior Pricing Analyst-

Actuarial Pricing — Hiscox USA

Role & Team:

The Senior Pricing Analyst role is an associate-level position for a critical thinker who enjoys applying analytical skills & innovative thinking to support pricing processes, tools, and strategies in partnership with multiple teams within Hiscox. This role will work across several lines of business that include Professional Liability, General Liability, BOP, Management Liability, Cyber and other specialty commercial products.

The primary function of this role will be to assist in developing and implementing rate strategies through deep independent analysis in partnership with fellow pricing analysts and managers.  This role reports to a Pricing Manager, with the primary objective of creating sustainable and profitable growth for Hiscox USA.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Rating plan design: Develop pricing frameworks for new products, including selection of rating variables, base rates, relativities, and tiering appropriate for small business commercial risks.

  • Launch filings & monitoring: Prepare state filings, actuarial memoranda, and supporting exhibits for new product approvals; track early performance against pricing assumptions and recommend adjustments as experience emerges.

  • Rate review & filings: Create, maintain, and streamline the rate change process, including rate indications, factor reviews, competitor comparisons, impact analysis, rate filings, and handle DOI objections.

  • Implementation & monitoring: Partner with IT to update raters and policy admin systems, support QA and UAT, and track post-change impacts on premium, mix, retention, hit ratios, and loss ratio.

  • Profitability reviews: Perform product, class, segment, and portfolio profitability reviews, translating findings into actionable pricing and underwriting recommendations.

  • Strategy & planning: Partner with Product, Underwriting, and Distribution leadership on segment-level pricing strategy — risk selection, tiering, and mix management — and contribute to annual planning discussions.

  • Market monitoring: Track competitor rate activity, market cycle indicators, and regulatory developments, and assess implications for the book.

  • Data & tools: Build SQL queries, validation routines, and reusable tools, templates, and dashboards that give the team and business partners faster access to pricing insights.

  • Actuarial methods & governance: Apply standard actuarial techniques including GLMs and other multivariate approaches; contribute to model documentation and peer review protocols.

  • Communication: Present findings to technical and non-technical stakeholders.

Person Specification:

Required
  • 3+ years of P&C actuarial pricing experience, preferably in small business commercial and/or personal lines.

  • 5+ CAS exams passed, with clear intent to pursue ACAS/FCAS; bachelor's degree in actuarial science, mathematics, statistics, economics, or a related quantitative field (or equivalent experience).

  • Hands-on experience preparing and managing rate filings and handling DOI objections.

  • SQL proficiency required; working knowledge of at least one of Python, R, or VBA.

  • Project management and workstream ownership experience across multi-team initiatives; strong written and verbal communication and analytical skills.

Preferred
  • Direct experience contributing to a US P&C new product launch or material rating plan overhaul.

  • Experience with GLM-based rating plans or other multivariate pricing models; familiarity with SERFF and specialty commercial lines (Professional Liability, Management Liability, Cyber, GL, BOP).

**Please note that this position is hybrid and requires two (2) days in our office weekly**

Salary Range: $90-$140k

The actual salary for this position will be determined by a number of factors, including the scope, complexity and location of the role; the skills, education, training, credentials and experience of the candidate; and other conditions of employment.
