Business Insider’s video team is seeking a Senior Producer to create original video content for our flagship series, So Expensive.

So Expensive explores the stories behind one of the most commonly asked questions: why is something so expensive? From individual products to over-consolidated industries and broader economic shifts, the team helps our audience understand an increasingly unaffordable world and the solutions that could lead to change.

The Senior Producer will pitch video stories and be involved in all stages of the creation process: pre-production, writing outlines and shot lists, shooting as needed, sourcing behind-the-scenes footage, scripting, editing, and post-production. You have a keen eye for visuals, a knack for great story selection, and a talent for shaping those stories into compelling YouTube videos with a strong narrative and incredible visuals.

You have experience as a video journalist in a digital newsroom, are flexible and adaptable, and familiar with our work on Business Insider. We’re looking for someone eager to develop our style and expand our coverage. We value creativity, accountability, and diversity of ideas and opinions.

  • Experience writing and editing scripts for video
  • A strong vision and POV that helps guide your storytelling
  • Experience working with a network of freelance shooters and editors is a plus
  • A commitment to fair and inclusive storytelling.
  • Knowledge of shooting and post-production is encouraged.

Key Responsibilities

  • Pitch ambitious story ideas for the So Expensive series
  • Conduct interviews, field shoots, and coordinate research for stories
  • Write scripts and outline stories for episodes between 12-30 minutes
  • Contribute to team brainstorms for future stories
  • Oversee post-production by either editing directly or working with motion designers and editors on stories you produce

Examples of the types of videos you might be producing include:

The Real Reason Disney Is So Expensive

Why Concert Tickets Are So Expensive — And Who’s To Blame
