What We Do

Gecko Robotics is helping the world’s most important organizations ensure the availability, reliability, and sustainability of critical infrastructure. Gecko's complete and connected solutions combine wall-climbing robots, industry-leading sensors, and an AI-powered data platform to provide customers with a unique window into the current and future health of their physical assets. This enables real-time decision making to increase the efficiency and safety of operations, promote mission readiness, and protect the environment and civilization from the effects of infrastructure failure.

Role Overview

You’ll be a member of Gecko’s nascent product design team, collaborating with other designers across mission arcs to share knowledge, solve overlapping problems, and influence what product design becomes at Gecko. You’ll embed on a single mission arc, working day-to-day with product strategists and engineers. You’ll spend meaningful time with users, including regular site visits, and you’ll use what you learn to move the product forward quickly, even when the problem isn’t fully defined.

The work is in a deep, technical domain with plenty of bad “solutions.” We’re building complex, novel products that don’t have a playbook.

You’ll ensure that we build a solution that is not only technically right, but gives users superpowers to do their jobs. You won’t just design solutions, but help the team decide what is worth building given customer reality, technical constraints, and time pressure, and then make sure it actually works for the users.

Mission Arc

  • Power: Software used by power plant operators and engineers to understand asset condition, optimize systems, and reduce operational risk.

This team has a lot to prove, and a lot of agency to define the outcomes that prove it.

What you’ll do
  • Work directly with customers in the field to understand real workflows, constraints, and failure modes

  • Help the team decide what matters, what to ignore, and what to ship next in ambiguous problem spaces

  • Design and iterate on workflows and interfaces for technically complex domains

  • Use sketches, prototypes, diagrams, research, or whatever artifact is needed to align the team and drive decisions

  • Move fluidly from discovery to execution, without relying on heavy process or perfect inputs

  • Actively push the borders of the design role into product strategy and engineering implementation

  • Travel to customer sites roughly once per month

In the first 3 to 6 months you will:

  • Develop deep, firsthand understanding of customer domains, mental models, and workflows

  • Help the team converge on problems that meaningfully affect customer value, and chart a clear path to solve them

  • Ship improvements to real users, and iterate on their feedback

  • Raise the bar for how design is used to make product decisions on your team

This role is an excellent fit if you:

  • Are a senior or staff-level product designer with experience owning complex, end-to-end problem spaces

  • Can be the sole designer on a product team with no shortage of engineering, product, bizdev, and momentum; can wear all the designer hats and even a few others

  • Are comfortable making decisions with incomplete information

  • Are energized that the lines between eng, product, and design are blurring

  • Can build strong mental models of systems and workflows, even in complex technical domains, and can communicate them effectively to different audiences

  • Prefer impact and progress over polish and process

  • Are energized by customer-facing work and time in the field

  • Bonus: Contribute code yourself (and not just vibe code :) )

This role is not for you if you:

  • Want well-defined roadmaps and problem statements

  • Prefer platform, design-system, or purely visual design work

  • Are uncomfortable with ambiguity, tradeoffs, and fast decision-making

  • Are looking for a large, mature design organization with established process
