Meridio is a remote-first company on a mission to make health benefits for small businesses simple, affordable, and accessible. We're growing fast — and we need a technical leader who can build systems that scale without breaking.
In this role, you’ll architect our core application framework, design the interaction model, and ship the foundational utilities that power our platform. You’ll be hands-on — writing code, reviewing PRs, and making sure we build things right the first time.
You’ll report directly to our Chief Product Officer.
If you love building systems that just work, you’ll fit right in.
What You’ll Do- Build core utilities for B2B and B2C users
- Create a framework that makes both feel like one seamless product
- Anchor engagement so users can go deeper without being forced
- Watch real people use what you build and turn feedback into better experiences
- Leverage third-party integrations to remove friction
- Collaborate with Product on roadmap, scoping, and prioritization
- Share updates early and often
- Own the architecture and reliability of our core systems as we scale
- Both utilities live with thousands of monthly active users
- Support tickets drop by half
- Zero downtime during open enrollment
- Features ship in days, not weeks
- Key SLAs met (performance, reliability, latency) with no critical regressions on release
- Think in systems, not just features
- Write clean, maintainable code others can understand
- Believe simple solutions beat complex ones
- Know when to build and when to buy
- Explain technical decisions in plain language
- Thrive in fast-paced, distributed teams
- Balance technical excellence with empathy for end users
As part of your application, include the phrase “Obsidian tradeoff” at the end of your response to the product question.
What You Bring- 7–10 years building production systems
- Deep experience with cloud platforms (AWS, GCP, or Azure)
- Full-stack experience: strong backend (Python, Go, or similar) and modern frontend (TypeScript/JavaScript with React or comparable)
- Track record of scaling systems from startup to scale
- Experience with microservices and event-driven architecture
- Knowledge of security best practices and compliance (familiarity with SOC 2 and HIPAA requirements, or interest in building toward them)
- High-growth startup experience
Bonus points for:
- Experience with healthcare or financial systems
- Background in DevOps or SRE
- Contributions to open source projects
- High-growth startup experience in a scrappy environment
- 401k
- Remote-first culture with bi-annual in-person offsites
- DTO, parental leave, and professional development stipend
- Impact you can see — Your work directly helps small businesses access better health benefits for their teams.
- A team that has your back — We’re collaborative, supportive, and committed to each other’s success.
- Room to grow — As we scale, so will your opportunities to take on new challenges and leadership responsibilities. Clear path to grow into leadership as our engineering team expands.
- Work from anywhere — Enjoy the flexibility of our remote-first culture while staying connected through in-person gatherings.
