First Merchants Bank is seeking a Senior Product Manager Consumer Checking to join our team! This position plays a pivotal role in shaping and driving the strategic direction of financial products within a designated Line of Business (LOB), specific to the Consumer Bank Checking product suite. This role demands a deep understanding of customer needs, market dynamics, and regulatory requirements to ensure products are not only competitive and compliant but also aligned with broader business objectives. The Senior Product Manager acts as a product champion, influencing cross functional teams and senior leadership to deliver innovative solutions that enhance customer experience and drive sustainable growth.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities: 

  • Product Strategy & Roadmap
    • Develop and continuously refine the product vision, strategy, and multi-year roadmap to reflect evolving market trends and customer expectations. Conduct in-depth market research, customer segmentation analysis, and competitive benchmarking to inform strategic decisions. Ensure alignment of product strategy with enterprise-wide goals and LOB-specific priorities, fostering collaboration across departments to execute strategic initiatives.
  • Financial Ownership
    • Own the product-level Profit & Loss (P&L), including pricing strategies, revenue targets, and cost management. Monitor key financial metrics such as revenue growth, margin performance, and cost-to-serve to ensure profitability and operational efficiency. Develop robust business cases for product enhancements, new feature development, and strategic investments, presenting recommendations to executive leadership.
  • Product Performance & Optimization
    • Track and analyze product performance indicators including adoption rates, customer retention, and market share. Identify and prioritize opportunities for product growth, customer engagement, and process optimization. Collaborate with analytics teams to build and maintain dynamic KPI dashboards that provide actionable insights for decision making.
  • Compliance & Risk Management
    • Ensure all products adhere to applicable regulatory requirements and internal risk management standards. Work closely with Legal, Compliance, and Risk teams to conduct audits, manage product reviews, and address emerging risks. Proactively identify compliance gaps and implement mitigation strategies to safeguard the organization and its customers.
  • Cross-Functional Collaboration 
    • Partner with digital and platform teams to digitize and modernize product offerings, enhancing customer accessibility and experience. Engage with Operations, Marketing, Technology, and Customer Service teams throughout the product lifecycle to ensure seamless execution and support. Facilitate cross-functional workshops and steering committees to drive alignment and accountability across stakeholders.

To be successful in this position, we require the following: 

  • Bachelor’s degree in business, marketing or a related field of study.
  • A minimum of five (5) years of product management experience specific to Consumer Bank Checking Accounts.
