Group 1001 is a consumer-centric, technology-driven family of insurance companies on a mission to deliver outstanding value and operational performance by combining financial strength and stability with deep insurance expertise and a can-do culture. Group1001’s culture emphasizes the importance of collaboration, communication, core business focus, risk management, and striving for outcomes. This goal extends to how we hire and onboard our most valuable assets – our employees.

Onyx is a robust, multi-module annuity administrative platform utilized by multiple companies within Group 1001. Built on a modern tech stack, it successfully launched in 2020. Onyx offers seamless integration capabilities, advanced analytics, and user-friendly interfaces, supporting efficient operations and scalability. It plays a critical role in streamlining processes and enhancing customer experience across the organization.

Why This Role Matters:

We're looking for a Senior Product Manager to own core functionality across the Onyx platform. This is a broad, hands-on product role: you'll work across multiple modules — from policy administration and transaction processing to product configuration and the data that ties them together — and turn business needs into clear, shippable product work.

You'll partner closely with engineering, operations, and business stakeholders to keep the core platform reliable, scalable, and easy to build on. Success is measured by outcomes: cleaner processing, less manual work, faster cycle times, and features that make the platform more capable release over release.

This is a role for someone who:

  • Owns a domain end to end — You take a module or capability from problem definition through launch and iteration.
  • Works from the business backward — You start with the operational or customer result and shape the solution to fit.
  • Uses data to decide — You establish baselines, watch the right indicators, and let evidence guide prioritization.
  • Communicates clearly — You write requirements engineers can build from and stakeholders can trust.

What You'll Own:

Core Platform Functionality

  • Own the product roadmap for one or more core Onyx modules (e.g., policy administration, new business, servicing, transactions, product configuration).
  • Translate operational and business requirements into clear PRDs, user stories, and acceptance criteria.
  • Prioritize a backlog that balances new capability, reliability, and technical health.
  • Partner with engineering on scoping, sequencing, and trade-off decisions.

Cross-Module Coordination

  • Understand how core modules connect and where changes in one area ripple into others.
  • Coordinate with adjacent product owners and platform teams to keep interfaces and shared capabilities consistent.
  • Help maintain reusable capabilities that serve more than one feature or team.

Outcome-Driven Delivery

  • Define what success looks like for each feature before development begins.
  • Establish baselines and track the leading and lagging indicators that matter for your domain.
  • Review outcomes regularly and document the impact of shipped work.
  • Drive measurable improvements in processing efficiency, cycle time, and operational cost.

Operations & Stakeholder Partnership

  • Work directly with operations teams to understand day-to-day pain points and workflow constraints.
  • Represent the voice of internal users and downstream teams in prioritization.
  • Support process automation opportunities that reduce manual handling and error rates.

What We're Looking For:

Product Depth

  • 4+ years of product management experience, including time on technical or platform products.
  • Comfortable owning a product area end to end, from discovery through launch and iteration.
  • Able to break down complex, interdependent problems into shippable increments.

Technical Fluency

  • Comfortable in technical discussions about data models, workflows, and system behavior.
  • Working understanding of APIs and integrations — enough to reason about how modules connect.
  • Able to partner with engineers on trade-offs without needing every detail spelled out.

Data-Driven Mindset

  • You establish baselines before claiming improvement.
  • Comfortable working with analytics and data teams; SQL familiarity is a plus.
  • You've made and documented product decisions based on evidence.

Communication & Collaboration

  • Write specs that engineers can build from and business stakeholders can understand.
  • Influence across engineering, operations, and business teams without formal authority.
  • Communicate clearly to both technical and non-technical audiences.

Requirements:

  • 4+ years of product management experience, with time on technical or platform products.
  • Track record of shipping product work that delivered measurable business results.
  • Experience owning a product domain and managing a backlog.
  • Solid technical foundation — comfortable reasoning about data, workflows, and integrations.

Nice to Have:

  • Experience in fintech, insurtech, or other regulated industries.
  • Familiarity with annuity, life insurance, or financial services operations.
  • Exposure to process automation or AI/ML-assisted features.
  • Experience working across multiple modules of a large platform.

Why Join Us:

  • Impact: Your work supports the core platform that every Group 1001 product depends on.
  • Growth: We're scaling rapidly — grow your scope as the platform grows.
  • Ownership: Real autonomy to make decisions and drive outcomes in your domain.
  • Team: Work with engineers who care about craft and shipping.
  • Learning: Exposure to complex technical and business problems across the annuity lifecycle.

Compensation:

Our compensation reflects the cost of labor across several U.S. geographic markets. The base pay for this position ranges from $150,000/year in our lowest geographic market up to $170,000/year plus bonus in our highest geographic market. Pay is based on a number of factors including market location and may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience.

Benefits Highlights:
