About the opportunity
Ontra is seeking a Senior Quality Engineer that will bereporting to our Manager, Engineering on our Quality Engineering team.
This person will be joining a new scrum team as the founding Quality Engineer. With an automation first mindset, you will develop and enhance software automation (functional, non-functional, API) to enable high quality and rapid software delivery. You are a multiplier of Quality by leading your team in quality and testing methodologies, sharing your expertise and up-leveling your teammates, and injecting high quality standards throughout the Software Development Lifecycle (SDLC).
You will work closely with our Infrastructure Engineering team to ensure fast and stable CI/CD pipelines to support your and other Ontra development team's delivery.

What you'll do

  • Results-oriented: Work closely with our Infrastructure team to incorporate the automated test suites into CI/CD pipelines to ensure bug free releases to Production
  • Proactive: Identify areas of improvement as well as additional key workflows for automation and start adding them to appropriate test suites
  • Self-starter: Building out automated functional test suites (Regression and E2E tests for Web platforms and backend API) and non-functional test suites (Web A11y). Aid in manual testing to ensure the features are working as defined in the acceptance criteria
  • Forward-thinking: Learn new technologies and advocate for high quality software development
  • Detail-oriented: Help creating best practices around test frameworks, documenting processes and documenting results for the broader team
  • Mentor: Mentor developers on the scrum team on best practices around various forms of testing and be able to review unit and integration tests written by developers


What you'll bring

  • Experience level: 7+ years of experience working in a high growth product environment building test automation suites and manual testing experience. Experienced with programming languages, including JavaScript/TypeScript (required) and Ruby (preferred) or any other object oriented programming language
  • Technical knowledge: Ability to recommend best frameworks for solving problems at hand, while partnering with cross functional teams, including Architecture
  • Full Stack Testing: proficiency with automated testing tools like Playwright (preferred) and/or Cypress is a must, experience with manual QE testing, API testing and web accessibility testing.
  • Best practices: Expert in DevOps practices related to building CI CD pipelines (using github, gitlab or similar)
  • Problem solving: Excellent Troubleshooting and triage skills


Pay transparency
Ontra takes individual candidate location, experience, and skills into consideration when determining compensation. The base pay range is listed below. Additionally, all positions are eligible for unit-based equity grants.
Some positions may be eligible for additional compensation, such as commission or other variable compensation structures, which is not included in the below base pay range.

Base pay range
$175,000 - $210,000 USD
