The opportunity
We’re looking for a Senior Full-Stack Engineer to join the Unity Ads team, with a strong emphasis on backend development. You’ll own the backend systems that power our ad experiences, sitting at the core of how ad requests, events, and rendering logic flow between our SDKs, Ad Viewer, and downstream services.
While this is a full-stack role, the majority of your work will be backend focused. You will work closely with the SDK development team and need to understand how client-side SDKs and our Ad Viewer interact with the backend.
What you'll be doing
- Act as a senior individual contributor on the Ad Unit team; designing, implementing, and maintaining backend services that handle ad requests and events coming from SDKs and the Ad Viewer.
- Implement and evolve business logic that controls how ads are selected, rendered, and tracked.
- Build and maintain the backend system that all SDK and Ad Viewer traffic flows through.
- Ensure correct communication and data flow between SDKs (iOS, Android, etc.), the Ad Viewer, and downstream systems.
- Define and manage the structure of events and requests (e.g., adding/removing fields, updating payload formats).
- Ensure events are correctly propagated downstream and remain compatible as the system evolves.
- Work closely with the SDK team to align backend behavior with client-side capabilities.
- Partner with the Ad Viewer / frontend team (React/JavaScript) to support UI/UX behavior via robust APIs and backend logic.
- Act as a bridge between client and server, ensuring end-to-end correctness and performance.
- Understand the Ad Viewer front end and how it consumes backend APIs.
- Occasionally contribute to frontend logic or integration, while focusing primarily on backend implementation.
What we're looking for
- Strong experience building backend services and APIs in a modern language, preferably Go.
- Experience working with ad requests, events, or ad rendering logic on the backend.
- Familiarity with React and JavaScript, especially in the context of integrating with backend services.
- Comfortable reasoning about client–server contracts, but not necessarily a dedicated UI engineer.
- Proven ability to work closely with multiple engineering teams (SDK, frontend, backend) and product stakeholders.
