Software Engineering, AI @ Clay

The AI team at Clay is responsible for Claygent, an agentic researcher equipped with a variety of tools to fetch information from the web as well as our internal data sources. As a Software Engineer on the AI team, you will build on the capabilities of our agent and imagine and implement cutting-edge applications of LLMs in the GTM field.

What You'll Do
  • Work across the entire product lifecycle from conceptualization through production to bring and refine AI experiences to our users

  • Implement tools and processes to monitor model behavior, performance, and alignment with user needs.

  • Build AI systems using 3rd party or self-hosted LLMs with feedback loops to fine-tune models for optimal performance

  • Expand the capabilities of Claygent to new use cases and build systems to understand our top use cases across the user base

What You'll Bring
  • Strong product intuition — the ability to think broadly and cross-functionally about innovative LLM-powered capabilities and product experiences

  • Have 0 to 1 experience (or a desire to work on a greenfield project) with a bias towards shipping and learning while balancing a high quality bar

  • Experience with LLM-based reasoning engines, memory modules, evaluation and simulation environments

  • Experience managing production AI/ML workloads and know the infrastructure, telemetry, CI/CD, and monitoring needed to support them

  • Up-to-date knowledge of the latest models, paradigms and frameworks in the the LLM space

  • Proficiency in Python and Typescript

  • 4+ years of experience

Nice to Haves
  • A strong vision for autonomous agents in the GTM space

  • Previous experience with applications of instruction tuning, reinforcement learning from human feedback (RLHF), and fine-tuning (e.g. LoRA) to improve LLMs for different use cases.

  • An infrastructure or platform background to set the foundation for future AI/ML hires to build off of

  • Diversity of perspectives and interests. We hope to build a team that is curious, and open-minded.

  • Experience working with systems & data at scale. May be building large-scale high-performance data pipelines, event ingestion systems, or generally working with larger production systems

  • Experience with our current tech stack:

    • React, Typescript, Python

    • AWS services: Aurora (Postgres), Elasticache (Redis), Elastic Container Registry (ECR), ECS (Fargate), Lambda, OpenSearch

    • IaC: Terraform

    • Deployment tools: CircleCI, Netlify, Playwright

    • Observability tools: Cloudwatch, Datadog, Mezmo
